Remember When ?

Do you remember when a person who commits to buying an item actually does !
Do you remember when someones word was worth more than saving a few dollars !

This rant is not intended for 99.5 % of you ,the other.5% that it does reply to knows who they are .

Post an item up for sale, speak to the person, get haggled down a few dollars and add in some freebies because "its the holiday season and I dont have extra money" , agree to hold it till they can arrange pickup . After about 2 weeks to be told that I decided to buy something else (coral)with the money instead is just wrong . If it was a real reason I would totally understand . But to commit and just backout is a lack of class .

As for the other person I'm glad your giving up saltwater, less chance of dealing with you .

I held the first one in but after two times I had to vent !

Regretfully, this is the age we are living in. Not much you can do about that.

In the future, if your going to hold something, get a 20% non-refundable deposit, up front. This commits them. Yes, it's tough to do business that way, but it's necessary sometimes.

I feel your pain. It's happened to me too. Sometimes you just can't be that nice and you have to sell it out from under them.

I haven't posted on this forum much since I joined (just been lurking). Is there a feedback forum?

This is yet just another example of what I keep asking for..... Some sort of Posting Protocol that could be a sticky that needs to be read before being able to post anything. At the very least there should be a Buyer/Seller Feedback Thread. Officers please address making this a better community. You can also look at my Posting Protocol thread in the members only section.

I will still go about my sales the same way,it is what I enjoy about this club . You need something you ask and it will be held no problem . Only thing I will change is from now on if you back out for no valid reason I will be posting your name and reason for doing so .

And we do need some sort of feedback forum.
Im just glad I'm not an admin cause it wont be easy . ;D

oh crap.... who called the cops? well scooter, if someone does something you don't like you can have your mom call their mom and maybe they can get a "time out"

I would have mixed feelings about a feedback forum.

Yes, there are advantages in the area of letting others know how a transaction worked out. However, there are also a bunch of downsides. Here are a few of them...

1) It's an open invitation to a massive flame war. This is just not good on a forum which is supposed to be a friendly sight. In effect both parties involved are asking everyone else to pick sides.

2) The internet is forever. Anything posted about someone will never go away. This make it impossible for someone to have something very old removed, no matter how good their behaviour was.

3) Often, especially when dealing with used equipment, there are two sides to an issue. Both sides can have very valid points. This in turn leads to problems 1 and 2.

I would say that a feedback forum on NJRC would end up causing more harm than good.

Yes there is a few downsides .
Not so much as asking someone to take sides . It would be nice to check and see if a person is an actual buyer/seller or just a pretender .
Not an easy job but a moderator can keep it civil . Only the people involved in the transaction telling there side .No jumping on the bandwagon .
After a while a pattern of good and bad sellers/traders/buyers will emerge all on its own .

But now after typing this I might be changing my mind about it . It could become a mess .
Either way I will continue ,the pro's way out number the con's .

"Officers please address making this a better community."

Only God can change peoples Behavior. And that's only if you pray. Phyl, John, Brian, Rich, Mike and everyone else involved in this club have made this one of the best reef clubs in America. If the people that come on here don't understand that when you give your word that you should do what you said you were going to do, I got news for ya that ain't never going to change.

No matter how many sticky's we post or rules we create.

Use the vendor feedback forum. Maybe suggest the title be changed to Vendor/Buyer/Seller feedback or something similar.

Like Ed said, you can't force anyone to read stickies, they are generally ignored. We simply have to depend on the individual's character to be considerate of others. While offensiveness is enforceable by the mods, inconsideration or inconvenience is not. So basically, if the offender isn't being offensive to the community at whole, your pretty much on your own to deal with the inconvenience.

Hope that helps.

As most people here will make friends if someone gives you a bad time just privately let them know. This isn't a RC sized community and if word spreads it won't take long. This is just my opinion, someone did it for me and although the sale worked out I was at least warned. Glad for the heads up though.
