I have this filter on my red ear slider turtle tank. It pulls in water and pumps it out but the water just doesn't get clean. I have the sponge, carbon and ammonia within it. Any ideas what the problem is?

Thanks,
Mark

thats strange, what size tank is it and what is the bioload. It could also be something within the tank leaching nutrients?

I have one on my freshwater tank and its really a trooper. They are probably one the best canister filters out there.

There is a rubber ring between the bottom of the impeller area that compresses to the top of the collection baskets when it is all assembled. If it is bad or damaged in any way it will let water bypass the baskets and not filter properly. Image sucks but you should get the idea.

info from the Rena site

This is the seal on the bottom of the motor that prevents water from the aquarium bypassing the filter material. It is a strip of sealing material that fits in the groove on the bottom of the motor. Replace when worn or there is a gap between the ends.

If its not that then I have no clue.

Thanks, I will check those "O" rings. They probably are worn out because the filter is 6 or 7 yrs old. I thought it would just leak if those went.

Wow you got 6 yrs out of your seals.....mine were shot in less than 2.

I have 4 of the xp 3's sitting....all need the seals replaced. Last good one I had leaked between the canister and the motor

Made a big mess.
