Rinsing Fish Food (Rods Food)

I have a problem with Red Slime (Cyno). I've read that I should rinse the food before feeding the fish's. I've been using Rod's Food for some time now and I don't see how its possible to rinse it. I have two or three bags of Rods Food and don't want to let it go to waste. Can you tell me what you do if you use this food.

Rods food has a lot of little pieces you might wash out that Can you reduce your corals/inverts would miss . Try cutting back on feedings if possible instead .

switch out phosban media? increase size of refugium (if possible)?

Perhaps (if possible) add additional flow to the area that you are seeing cyano.

I wouldn't rinse Rod's Food. Believe they have oyster eggs and other stuff that would be gone and is a reason why it costs a good amount.

I would cut back on feedings and/or take other actions as suggested in the thread.

I do love rods food but ive stopped feeding it only on sundays.

I was getting bad spikes in phos and ammonia when i was feeding rods food. There is a alot of stuff in it and it was getting caught up in the rock work creating algea problems. Since i switched to hikira mysis and krills soaked in selcon i dont have any problems anymore.

Rods food is good but my fish werent eating everything and it was getting caught up.

Rods food is not something you wanna feed everyday. Unless you have alot of filteration to pull it right out. Rinsing foods is meant for other fronzen foods mysis brine krill squid stuff like that

so how do you rinse other frozen foods? not rods food? i usually just let the cube site in some water for a while (soaking in a drop or two kent garlic extreme) then dump it in the tank

hmmm, i feed rods 4 to 5 times a week, i've been having BAD algae problems, i don't have a huge amount of filtration.... coincidence? i think NOT!!!!! son of a b*%#h!!!!

Rods is not meant to be rinsed at all theres too much in it that is benificial for your fish and corals. Thats the point of it :)

As for other frozen food what I do is defrost it in a small net rinse it w/ water squeeze the water out with my fingers repaet that a few times then dump it into a cup of water and rinse the net in the tank for the stragerlers. Then feed slowly throughout a few hours. I personally never dump more then my fish can eat in like 10 secs. Ive been doing this for about 10 years and never had any nutrient problems in any of my tanks

The rinsing only takes a minute or so. That is the most important part.

Rods Food has been my only source of food. Sometimes I put some flakes in it as well. What a disaster.

I shall incorporate this method into my daily feeding routine. Thanks for the advice guys.
