Rinsing Fish Food (Rods Food)

Once again I buck the trends! I don't rinse frozen foods.

I haven't tried Rod's but I mix several types of frozen cubes with selcon and garlic as my standard feed. I mix it up in a bottle with saltwater. I use the saltwater so it will not float right to the top. This way more gets to the corals and fish before the overflow gets it.

If the tank is in balance and you have the right filtration capacity, it shouldn't be an issue.

My standard disclaimer: I don not run SPS focused-low-nutrient-systems. I have lots of fat well fed LPS with a smattering of SPS friends that seem to tolerate the LPS focused environment. Results may vary. Do not try this approach unless you a willing to tweak other aspects of your tank environment to compensate for higher nutrients. High nutrient tanks may experience occasional outbursts in growth of both desireable and undesireable organisms. If undesireable organisms thrive for more than four hours, have a tasty adult beverage and sleep on the matter before taking extreme steps to address the issue. If the undesireable organisms continue to grow, seek the help of a more competent reefer than myself!

I also don't rinse and mix two different cubes in a small plastic cup with saltwater. I don't feed the whole thing at once. I poor a little in until it's all gone and repeat until there is no more food. I also use both sides of the tank when feeding so it's all on one side.

I only feed 3/4 times a week. Usually, I feed only 1 cube but if they seem extra hungary I'll use 2. I have a Flame angel, Purple tang, damsel, Pseudochromis, blenny, engineer goby, hawk fish, sbrittle tarfish; plus the corals.

The solution is to make your own frozen food where you can rinse the ingredients with ro/di water prior to mixing. This eliminates a lot of the problems you run into with feeding frozen food. There are ways of getting rid of Red Slime algae with additives that do not harm your bio filter. PM me if you need any info on them
