RODI unit Setup

Hi all. I will soon be getting an RODI unit, and need to start thinking about any issues.

1. I have Well water with High Iron and Manganese. (I think they make High Iron RODI units, any recommended brands?)
2. The Water is hard, I have a softener system that is too small for the house. I am buying this:(http://www.qualitywatertreatment.co...inDemand9100SXTModel91SXT64M-idv-1398-18.html)
3. Water pressure is low (I believe 60psi before the softener unit, so a booster may be needed)
4. Copper pipes, If copper shouldn't be in my system at all, do I bypass the softener unit and go from the tank bladder which is PVC? By bypassing the softener...what issues will I have with the unit? Or do I have to rip apart the plumbing to the softener, patch in the RODI, and then connect to the copper still running through the house?

Any advice is greatly appreciated. Also how many GPD and stages do you recommend for a 240g Tank with a 40g sump and possibly a 100 gallon fuge?

Thanks.

I think I would just get a dual membrane unit with a booster on it and two di filters. Don't worry about the copper pipes, that isn't an issue. I would check out the filter guys or airwaterice.

in terms of gpd - i went with a 75 (option for 100 on the unit). The 75 provides slightly higher rejection rates so you get slightly better quality water.

I use a typhoon 3 from airwaterice. I would not bypass the softner. I don't personally.

5-6 stage with the full size canister for di resin. some models come with the smaller tubes for di. I found I had to change them too often. I got mine from filterdirect.com rd102 unit and added another canister for di.

Thanks for the info guys. Has anyone ever used Melev's units (http://www.melevsreef.com/rodi.html)? Or should I stick with a brand name?

Marc spoke at MACNA and he's a genuinely great reef geek guy. I would not hesitate to buy from him if that is the direction you want to go. If you had questions about it - I'm sure he'd respond. He's based in Dallas I believe.

That stated - as a member of NJRC - you can't go wrong supporting a sponsor. Both TBaquatics and AWI carry rodi's. Do some price comparision. Plus TBA is based locally in flemington - you'd save on shipping and meet a great guy to boot.

98% membrane
Refillable vertical DI
What is your water pressure...might need a booster, not sure how much pressure wells put out.

As Hawkeye says I am in Flemington and can talk you through what you need whether or not you end up buying from me.

I use the 5 stage unit from airwaterandice. I think mine is 75gpd. My tds going in is only about 150. i always get 0 out and replace the filters maybe once a year.

Thanks Johnny. My GH is around 11 and my TDS is 315 before the softener and 345 after it. I may have to go with a Kati Ani unit at this point. as in the long run it may be cheaper to maintain.

air water ice! Just got the typhoon 3 it's awesome. 0 tds. My water tests at alomst 220 before this. I also got an extra di chamber so i'm running 2 di. I got the unit, extra di and 1 year replacement filters for about 280? shipped, Great deal
