i need help on deciding on what kind of sump to use for my 55 gallon tank. I have a 35 gallon reef tank right now that i use a hob filter and i need some direction on what to use for filtration.
Are you stuck on the 55? I had one for about three and a half years, and hated it. The front to back dimension is really limiting. If you can, I'd go with a 75 or even a 40 breeder.
A lot of people (like the ones posting above) find that the 55g is too narrow to really have some fun in. It makes aquascaping hard when you don't have a lot of room front to back. If that is the tank that fits for you, or you want to setup then go for it. As far as filtration goes, get a good skimmer. At that size (55g plus 35g sump so roughly 90g total) you will have a ton of choices from SWC, reef octopus, and bubble magus just to name a few.
