Storing Live Rock?

Well I have two tanks and I am looking to dismantle my larger tank until I buy a house and get settled in. I have 70lbs of LR in this tank and I am curious as to whether or not I could bleach/water nuke the rock, dry it and dry store it until I am ready to use it again. I know the culture will die, but I can always get that started again :) any thoughts?

One option is to post for sale and buy new LR when your ready. I have heard of members storing the LR in a closed cooler with water, most life will die off and it should go thu a cycle, the benefit of that is that when you use it again, it will have a lot less organics to cycle again. Bleach sounds harsh.

you should have no problems storing it dry, just scrub it, rinse it off, probably let it sit outside for a bit as it will smell and than store it up. I think the other suggestions are just saying live rock is worth more than base rock so if you can sell it you could easily use the money to buy base rock and not worry about 70lbs or rock in the meantime.

I bought rock from a guy on this site that stored it dry and then put it in tubs with a skimmer and PH a month before he was ready to use. I bought it and added 20% more LR from my LFS and it all worked out great.
