Storm last night & coralvue hydros

The storm last night possibly bricked my coralvue hydros launch. Its crazy because it was connected to surge protector as well. I suppose not all surge protectors are created equal.

Luckily, the brain of it was moved to the other hydros products I have hooked up. I just don't have some minor things not functioning ex: salinity, ph probes. And for some reason the heater probe wont connect. I hooked up the rest to the wifi strips & other sense ports on the x3. Im glad most of the products I have , have their own controller like helios heater.

The hydros launch is flashing red & white which possibly means hardware failure. I opened it up & unplugged the fuse breaker and I got it to work, but it kept disconnecting from the internet. Of course it happened when coralvue was closed. They responded on Facebook last night, but waiting to hear from there tech support today.

I've been looking into purchasing an XP8 for about a month now because the wifi strips aren't super reliable(they disconnect a lot but usually do reconnect). I really didnt want to shell out the cash, but I just placed it on order.

I'm just glad I was home when this happened. Its funny though because I got the hydros kraken in case of power going out, which it works great for. Never thought about one of the hydros failing lol.(it was the storms fault though). I wasn't writing this to bash hydros, I love this thing. Just goes to show no matter how much you think about backups, stuff still happens lol.

That sucks. Seems any time power goes out WIFI connected items are bitch to get back up and running no matter what it is or manufacturer.

The hydros products are really good at reconnecting, however, the hydros wifi strips are not. I find myself resetting my router pretty regularly. Luckily, I can do that from anywhere. As long as you dont have anything that has to turn on and off at a certain time you're good to go. I usually have my T5's hooked up to it though lol. Now with the XP8 i shouldn't have to worry about that anymore

Even though my job is in IT; I stay away from that stuff in the hobby. All I have is an Inkbird and doser.

So its probably bricked. I realized all the things I had connected to the sense ports aren't working. Luckily I have an extra level sensor for the ato. Theyre having me send it in , but might be SOL because it was a power surge.

Highly recommend a UPS before controllers. I myself don't follow this advise mostly because I dump all money into corals and fish but such is life.

Yeah, ill look into a good one. I thought the surge protector I had would do its job LOL. Luckily it didnt blow up the kraken.(edit ordered a cyber power ups)

I have led strip around my ceiling and 2 leds are now different colors from the rest.

The XP8 came yesterday, I now have all my outlets hooked up to it except 1. I've been meaning to get the XP8, but didnt want to shell the cash. Luckily the wife said its an investment!

I just have to get a new rope leak sensor & I think ill get another temp sensor for backup. I tested the rope leak sensor and dunked it in water and still said dry LOL.

The launch should be at coralvue on Monday. Im hoping its salvagable. I really dont want to spend another $600 on one. Honestly, i might not even need it. I have to see if hydros has another product that has salinity and ph built into it(edit i just looked. No other one except for the x10 has both LOL)
