stronger than egg crate alternatives

I have egg crate on top of my tank now, inside a canopy due to a few jumpers. I'd like to ditch the canopy and go with an open top - just think it looks nicer and the better air flow would help with cooling the lights.

We have 2 cats - and no we aren't getting rid of them. They can jump on top of the canopy from the floor (yeah, they are in beter shape than I am lol).

So I'm looking for stronger alternatives to egg crate as I tested it and with even just one cat on there the egg crate snaps.

Thoughts/suggestions? Thanks.

Glass is one alternative. Reinforced egg crate is another. You could strap PVC to one side of it and would increase the strength. It would be interessting to test it. I know it makes a frag rack much stronger. But I wasn't fragging cats!

I know marineland makes some really nice glass tops in many sizes but they require cleaning every so often as you know.

Knowing your setup and your cats, I think you are best to leave well enough alone and keep it the way you have it. Glass canopies will work, but will also eliminate your plans for additional air flow. Removing the top also presents another issue that you'd have to work through, hanging your lights.

you have a nice setup, the eggcrate keeps your jumpers in the tank and the canopy hides it all. If you want additional airflow, you can add a small fan to the back of your tank which won't be seen from the front. You could also get a clip on fan from Home Depot and clip it to your sump.
