Stupid Simple LPS Dominated 40 Breeder

Hello All,

My name is Joe, and I have been in the hobby for over 20 years, have kept all kinds of corals and tanks of all sizes (5 to 180 gallons). I got out of the hobby for 3 years or so when my lids were babies and I didn't have much time. Now that I am home all the time now in my home office, I needed a tank. I went with the 40 breeder because it feels like a large tank while being small, and it fit in my office perfectly.

This tank will be very LPS dominated and the goal is to keep it as simple as possible. I tinker a lot with stuff, so in the past with sumps, controllers, dosers etc I messed with stuff to my detriment. So here is the equipment list:

  • 40 breeder
  • Solid cherry wood stand from RJ Aquatics
  • Maxspect Razor X 200 watt LED
  • Eheim Jager Heater
  • Single Kaomer Bluetooth doser for Alk only
  • Eshopps PSK100 HOB skimmer
  • Jebao RW-8 Powerhead
  • ATO by hand for now - have a new reefbreeders ATO not setup yet.
I hand dose calcium, mag, and tropic marine part C for trace elements daily. The tank is only 2 months old so very light on fish at the moment with a PJ cardinal, wheelers goby, and a Rainfordi goby. Pics to follow shortly.

i agree about the 40b. they got it right with that tank! i use it on all my sumps and i have a turtle tank with it. yeah maybe i'll do a display too. right now i have 15g fluval flex (my wife strangely doesnt like this tank.. i paid full price for both the tank and stand! - maybe this is my excuse to upgrade this tank???) i've got a 29 biocube that my buddy found on the side of the road (wife says this is her favorite tank...uh??? really????), then i have a 75rr that im temporarily housing fish in until i get the 125rr set up (i'll be unloading the 75 and everything with it after that),\ and i have a 55 with a lot of rock sitting in there. probably going to sell the 55 too not reef ready and no holes.

we talked about building a custom tank, 60x60x24. but we are also thinking about building a new house so its sort of a waste and hassle to build and eventually take down.

Thanks! I'll check them out! I've been to unique corals (were in a garage in Jackson at the time). Not familiar with aquasd. store or online retailer?
