Sump dimensions for a 300g ?

So I am talking to my acrylic guy to get some 1/2" cut for a custom sump. Dam acrylic is expensive these
days so I dont want to mess up.

The stand I am building is 72L 36D X 40H. This is for a 72x36x27 (300g) tank. I want to maximize the
sump within reason.

I am planning on a 64" L x 28" D x 16" H sump. I should have about 66" L x 33" D x 28.75" H inside
the stand.

The simmer section will be 27Dx 15L x 14H= 25 gallons
Then 3.5 " worth of bubble trap (1/2" acrylic) = 3 gallons
The return section in the (middle) will be 27D x 12L x 14H = 20 gallons
The refigum is 27D x 32.5 L x 14.5 H = 55 gallons

So total 103 gallons. With this design I can absorb 8 gallons in the sump before I
overflow. That should cover whats in the 2x drain 1.5" & 2x return 1" pipes.

Do this seem reasonable for fior a 300 gallon sump? I want to try to keep the sump in the
stand. The space under the stand is 28.75" tall. The skimmer is 13x11x25H
So I am just giving myself enough room to remove it. I'll need to build the stand so the skimmer
doesnt hit a cross beam then I can use the full 35.25" height. I will probably need to put the
skimmer on a platform so its only in 10" of water so it will be 29.5 tall.. so I suppose not hitting
a cross beam is essential. That will give me 6" above the skimmer cup.

I could make the sump about 2" wider to 30" . That would add about 10-15 gallons. Needed?
I dont know if its worth making it that tight.

Could I get away with 3/8"thick acrylic? I'd save roughly 25% which is about $118. It would also
give me another galllon or two in the sump volume.

Thanks,
Mike
