I recently upgraded my sump (Tanks - 180 gallons) and it was built bigger than the dimensions that I specified. It still fits in the cabinet but I have hardly any space to put a skimmer now. My clearance is about 5" or so. My question is do any of you know of a skimmer that has a small width that I will be able to put into the sump? If it can only handle half of the tank thats ok for now. The only one that I see may fit is an Aqua C Remora which is 6" wide. The other option would be if I can take apart the skimmer and assemble it in the sump but I don't know of any skimmers that come apart at the base. Any help will be appreciated.

If possible I would install the skimmer in back of or to the side of the tank. That way you can still use a large skimmer on the system. Yes, you could jam a small skimmer into the sump, but it would likely be too small and a pain to work on.
If you don't want to see an external skimmer, you could easily build something that fits over it, and hides it.

Thanks for the advice Dave. I am going to look up some of those HOT skimmers..I may also be able to cut a few inches from the top part of the wooden frame (The doors dont go completely to the top of the stand) to give myself more space..I have to see because it will probably affect the doors opening and closing.

How about you put the skimmer into the sump and then put the whole thing under the cabinet together? What type of skimmer do you have?

AquaC EV series skimmers will work both in and out of your sump, have a small foot print and once you manage to set them right, perform very well.
I have a Reef Devil and the footprint is 7". I could have put it in before I put the sump in but it needs cleaning every few months or so and you need to take the whole thing out. I actually wound up cutting above the doors (There was a few more inches of room above the doors) and now it fits in and out. The problem is I have a big hole above my doors..lol..I guess I can eventually put bigger doors in and cut the rest across and it should look ok..The problem is matching the color of the wood. That new reef devil looks nice. Skimmers are so expensive in general!
Have by chance checked into a ATI BM160 I have seen them on tanks as big as a 220 and did a great job.
