This Friday is our 50th wedding anniversary. A few months ago we took the family to Bermuda on a cruise and I thought on the actual day we would have a peaceful day. Nope. We have to go to a Sweet 16 party on Jones Beach here on Long Island which is probably one of the biggest beaches in the world but of course the party is inside a place on the beach. It ends at midnight.

At 16 I don't think I even knew what midnight was. The place is an hour and a half from here and my Kids and Grand Kids are coming over after the party to spend the night.

I have to throw them out the next day because I have plans and am taking my wife out along with 3 other couples but she doesn't know about all that. :D

This is her when I married her when she was 18

This morning about 6:00 I went for my normal walk. It was still dark. A small white van pulled next to me and opened his window. I didn't see a gun or political poster so I assumed it was safe to go up to this vehicle.

There was a guy inside, not dirtbag looking and he looked at me and said in very broken English:
"Can I Help?" . I said "Help with what?" So he said: "Are you training?" and he raised his arms like he was lifting weights.

I said: "Yes, training, Eye of the Tiger and all that", and I lifted my arms like Rocky did in his movie when he ran to the top of the stairs.

The guy looked at me kind of weird and just drove away.

I assume he figured I was lost or my wife threw me out and I was rushing to get away.
But it's nice to know there are people around that still want to help you.

On Friday we went to a Sweet 16 party for my wife's cousins niece. It was in a beautiful and old place called Gatsby's on Jones Beach right on the water. The place was originally opened in 1931 so it is all Art Deco and used to be for the rich and famous. (Like Humble)

Gatsby on the Ocean Brings Decadence Back to Jones Beach

Gatsby on the Ocean has opened at Jones Beach. The beautiful restaurant and wedding venue has restored some of the beach's early glamour.

Right next to it is the Jones Beach pool where I used to go when I was very young.

Anyway the party which of course had mostly 16 year olds was way to noisy for my almost 75 year old ears so I brought ear plugs although in my life I went to many such parties with no problems. (Maybe thats why my ears are so delicate now. That and being attached to a field artillery battery in Viet Nam)

Even though my wife can't really walk (MS) she got up in the action. Shes in the center.

There is something in my water but it doesn't seem to affect any of the livestock. I don't know why but it is very interesting and not the boring skimate this skimmer normally makes. :)

It's hard to automatically send it to the drain because it stays as foam forever. I am sure whatever it is will soon leave with no help from me.

Ever since I eliminated that invasive sponge 6 or 7 months ago, my water chemistry has been "interesting" to say the least.

If I get time I want to do a water change with all NSW. I would like to get the tank back to how it was before the sponge issue. My shoulder is healing nicely but I still can't lift much. It is also getting cold and windy here now and I don't relish going into the water. But I will.

I posted this in 2016 so it's old, but true :)

My Mother n law died yesterday in a nursing home. She was 90 years old and she lived a good long life. Her last few weeks were, unfortunately wracked with pain and suffering so now it is a blessing and she is at rest.

Judy was a big Frank Sinatra fan and she would always listen to his records and go to see him when he performed in New York.

She lived up stairs from us for almost 40 years and was a waitress for most of that time.

About ten years ago my wife bought her this Frank Sinatra Christmas tree ornament that actually sung in Sinatra's voice a Christmas song after you pushed the button.
8 years ago, when she entered the nursing home due to senility we put that ornament in a box in our laundry room and forgot about it.

Last week I was wasting time writing on some fish forum on the other side of the house and I heard Frank Sinatra singing.
I first thought it was a new ring on my wife's phone, but it wasn't. I searched the basement and found the song was coming from this box. I brought the box up to my wife and asked her if she knew what this was about. I thought it was one of those cards that sing when you open it.
We took the stuff out of the box, and on the bottom was Frank belting out this song. I pushed the button but couldn't stop the singing so I removed the batteries (no, he didn't keep singing) and he stopped.

I put the batteries back in and he was quiet but I told my wife to call the nursing home and see how her Mom was.
We were told that she was not doing very well and developed pneumonia and a UTI. They put her on antibiotics.

A few days later I am again on my computer, and I hear: "Its that time of the year data date data" and it's Frank again. I took him out, pushed the button and couldn't quiet him so I again took out the batteries. My wife called the nursing home and my Mother N Law was now on oxygen and they didn't think she would make it another night so we rushed to the nursing home, but before we did, we put fresh batteries in Frank and brought him with us.

We stayed there for most of the night but as soon as we got home, they called us and said she passed away. "Frank never again sang and we can't make him sing".
We are putting this enigma into the casket with her as they seem to be friends.
My wife just hopes that when she gets to Heaven, she runs to my wife's Dad before Frank Sinatra.

You can't make this stuff up.

My friend had 10 of our other friends over for dinner last night and he wanted to make Linguine and clams. He doesn't cook so he asked me to do it. That is my favorite meal so of course I made it.

Here is the sauce without the pasta. That is 3 dozen clams and I used 3 lbs of pasta that he just brought back from Italy plus the olive oil.

Notice the growth on my rocks. Many people won't like this but it means health. There is no need to feed mandarins and other small fish if the rocks look like this. Pods love living in this mess and look at all the spaghitti worms. They may be linguine worms. I don't know. :)
