Tank birthday and I'm a Geezer

I can't believe Greta will be gone for a year! I was so home sick when I got married lol.
When I got married we moved into my wife's Mothers house for a while because she had a two family house with a tiny apartment just big enough for my fish tank.

Then we bought our own house so she didn't move far. My wife and I grew up a few blocks from each other and our Mothers became best friends.

Exciting morning at 4:30. I am taking my neighbor to the hospital this morning for a colonoscopy. I'm glad it is not me. I had my last one last year and now, I am done with that. After you get to a certain age, they figure you're going to croak soon anyway so you don't need them anymore.

People here depend on me because they know as a Veteran, I am never late and they can count on my no matter what time it is or weather conditions. No excuses.

She can, and she is not exactly a kid. She also can't stand up which is why she is holding me so tight. Her walker is behind her out of the picture. Or, maybe she still likes me. :love_heart:

52 years married and still going strong. Stronger every year, but that's what happens in a great relationship. :D

We haven't changed at all in all those years. :eek2:

(I still have that Army shirt she is wearing and I wear it every Veterans Day)

Same shirt.

Unfortunately a very good friend of mine for over 50 years was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer last year. They removed a foot of his colon. Yesterday he called me to say it spread to his liver and next week they are cutting out half his liver.

I don't think he has long to go. We invited them here next week for dinner. I am not sure we will see him again which makes me very sad. I have lost 4 close friends in the last 4 years. But I guess, thats life as we are all getting to that point.

Happy 4th of July.

I'm not sure about everyone else but I truly love this country and am so happy I live here.

I have been to many other countries, and I know it's not perfect, but it is much better than any other place to live.

So many people live in places where they are not free. Places where you can't say what you want, do what you want, wear what you want and leave when you want.

We have all of this because of our military, past and present and I thank them all.

When it was our By-centennial in 1976, I was out in my boat with friends celebrating in New York Harbor while watching the tall ships and the fireworks.

I am in the second boat from the left.

It was a fantastic time. Today will be even better.

I was also out in my boat for the 100th anniversary of the Brooklyn Bridge.

Have a great day today whatever you do.

If you haven't noticed, I am very Patriotic as I was born right after WW2 when everyone was Patriotic.

I don't know about anyone else, but we watched the celebrations in DC last night until 1:00 am.

They were delayed about 3 hours because of rain but as a Patriot, I had to stay and wait for the biggest fireworks display in history along with Patriotic, American music. I love it.
I may not have enough time left to wait another 250 years for it to happen again.

We also had a huge thunderstorm which knocked out much of the power here. About half the houses still don't have power, but I do.

Horrible night. It was pouring here, many trees down, no power for 24 hours but the worst thing is my Grand Kids were on a flight to Maine by themselves. (11 and 14 year olds) They cancelled their connecting flight in DC. They were in the airport alone with no money and they started to cry because the next plane was also cancelled.

They spent the night on a bench in the airport until my Daughter, who is in Ohio with friends got them on a flight to Laguardia early this morning. A friend met them there and they are supposed to get on a flight today to Maine.

I was up all night with the generator but my fish were fine because I just threw an electric eel in there and some firefish for heat. :eek2:

I have been re-doing our guest bathroom. I hate builder stuff and after 9 years I tore it out.

I don't like anything anyone else has or anything you can buy in Home Depot or a furniture store, so I have to build it myself.

This was the original vanity and the hole I made in the wall for the new 6" deep medicine cabinet. I had to move that 3" vent pipe out of the way.
That old vanity I will throw out.

I wanted a hammered copper vanity top so I got a large sheet of pure copper and heated it with a torch to give it a nice color and pattern. This also softens the copper to make it easier to hammer.

Here I am hammering the copper with a ball peen hammer

I built the thing in my workshop out of solid oak, no sissy plywood.

The sink is made of cement. (I didn't build the sink)

Here is the thing finished, before painting the walls.

It also has lights under it, not on here. The entire thing is suspended and doesn't touch the floor so it is easier to clean the floor. I also had to install some wall tile behind it as it was missing.

Now I will work on the remaining walls which will be oak slats with lights sporadically installed in it. The shower glass I will also replace with a black, barn door framed glass.

...

That is one impressive piece of work. Great design and execution. I know exactly what you mean by builder stuff. My own place is a townhouse condo and originally it had all the cheep contractor grade stuff. Over time I have replaces a lot of it. The ironic thing is that the Home Depot stuff you mention is lots better that the contractor grade stuff I originally had.

DaveK, I am starting on the Oak Slat, lighted wall. That should really make it Pop. I am figuring where I am going to hide the transformer for the lights. :D

I am so happy. On my beach walk this morning at low tide I lifted some rocks and they were loaded with amphipods. They have been totally gone for 2 years and for some reason, now they are back. Tomorrow morning I am going down there with a bucket and collect a few thousand to throw in my tank.

I am not sure if I can collect today. My wife was in terrible pain last night so I am waiting for her to get up to see how she is today. Mornings are usually better.

It is supposed to rain today which normally triggers the pains. MS is a very sucky disease.
