I was replacing about 3 gallons of water daily because evaporation. I took out the 300 watt from the sump. Temp was around 79-81 degrees. Now it is around 74 with 1 gallon or less evaporation daily. Is this temp acceptable?
I would say that a bit on the low side. I try to keep mine between 79-80. Plus, where are you measuring the temp? If in the sump, I bet the tank is lower. There can usually be a 1-2 degree temp diff between a tank and sump. Especially if the sump is in a different room or in an enclosed cabinet.
I am measuring the temp in the tank. My sump sits below in the same cabinet. 75g RR tank with 30g sump. The fish, mushrooms and frog spawn seem fine. I lost many corals over the last few months. Still don't know why.
74 is to low for the temp , i run my betw 78 and 80 and i keep my AC on a stedy temp. what are yor others parameters , if your losing corals ph, alk, calc, magnesium etc.Something else may be low in your system ad causing the coralsto go , i just went throught the same thing .
