*thumbs down* saltwaterfish.com

I ordered some fish from this site a few days ago. They arrived this evening. 4/7 fish were dead, the other 3 were barely breathing and on the verge of kicking the bucket themselves.
I'll start at the beginning though.
Knew my fish order was shipped yesterday, to arrive today, so I checked with FedEx early this morning to see an estimated arrival time (guaranteed delivery by 3 PM) and stayed near the door all day waiting, periodically checking to see if FedEx had updated anything else on my package. Around 2:30 PM they did, said that no one was home and package was being returned to the facility.
I called FedEx immediately of course, protesting that this was a live package and I certainly was home, no one had ever come to the door. They asked to verify my address, and they had it wrong, so I checked my order confirmation from saltwaterfish.com and we had given the correct address. FedEx, after multiple phone calls from me, finally turned their truck around and brought me my order at about 4:45 PM.
When I opened the Styrofoam box, I was quite surprised to find only a few heat packs haphazardly strewn across the top, and they were barely tepid. I quickly removed them and started taking the fish bags out. They were frigidly cold and as stated above... 4/7 fish were stone cold dead. The other three were still breathing a bit, and revived after floating the bags for a bit. The inverts I got were fine once they warmed up as well.

As for the answering machine saying "packaged to survive 48 hours!"... I have some serious doubts given that mine didn't make it 24.

One last thing... The sizes of what I got were definitely on the small side. The Maroon Clown was advertised at 2-4 inches (and I have a 4 inch Maroon myself), he came in at maybe an inch and a quarter at the most.
So for $250 I got some new snails and hermits, 2 false percs, a really small fire shrimp and a small cleaner shrimp. (and the tiny maroon)

What I lost totalled $30 in fish. Not enough to be a reorder there without paying shipping.

Was this SW's fault or fedex? Anything not arriving live is refunded not credited. I only had 1 DOA and my package was 9 hrs late. Seems pretty expensive for your order. You must've bought a lot of inverts cause I only see about $100 worth of fish.

Kinda both.....SW put the wrong lot number on the box....so they tried to deliver it to the wrong location and since that place is under construction they deemed it undeliverable. So i had to fight with fedex to get them to stop back over at the correct lot number...They should have called....the phone number is on the stupid box.

And of course they didnt put enough heat packs in the box...they were not even warm....all the fish were frozen stiff.

I bought inverts for 2 tanks....was a large order of snails, hermits etc. They were all fine.

shame.. Fed-ex used to be my favorite because of Sat delivery but after them making my package from mr. coral stay an extra day at their facility i was not very happy with them

I had very good experience with SW so dunno what to tell you. They gave me refund on my DOA. Gave me credit for my RTN frag (which actually is doing ok now). Gave me credit for all snails when I actually was trying to tell them only 1 died (Anywhere else, who cares, but hey, they have 15 day guarantee right?). It was also a cold day but not as bad as today. I also had more water in the box which probably insulated better. Give them a call and leave a message. They will make sure they do you right.

i ordered from saltwater fish one time and i will never do it again. i ordered 5 fish all but one survived the rest kicked the bucket within 2 days. I feel its to risky to order with out seeing any of the fish i only buy what i can see. just my personal experience

6 heat packs are MORE than enough for 7 fish, dude.

When I get in fish, we get them in at roughly 150-300 per box and there are a grand total of 4 heat packs. Everything is moderately warm and fine. We have a few DOAs, but it's normally because the fish were bagged badly than because the fish are cold.

They actually gave you more heat packs than you needed.

Definitely wait till spring time, however, to place another online livestock order. I would never, ever order livestock this time of year online.
