Tubastrea

Battling insomnia, I took at look at a new tubastrea that I brought home yesterday and it still hasn't opened. How long do they typically take? The other colony I have in the tank is doing just fine. Anything to coax it to open? That's the one thing about tubastrea, hard to be sure what you are buying is in good condition since they only open at night.

Give it a chance to get comfortable in your tank. Often they haven't eaten in a long while if they were shipped far and take some coaxing to open.
Many of them open during the day if you train them to. It's best to feed at the same time each day and after a week or so of that it will begin to open at that time.

If I'm feeding during a time different than usual, I will drop some cyclopeeze into the tank to tease it open. Once it 'smells' food, mine open right up and I feed them a more meaty food like mysis.
