TWO thumbs up for Ecotec w/battery backup

Before the hurricane even came through my power went out and my MP40W with battery backup kicked right in. 61 (yes you read correct) hours later it was still going. All I can say is I believe that it was absolutely worth the money (even though it was hard to swallow at the time). I only have one backup battery currently on my 200, I lost no fish and the water stayed clean. On my 120 without one the water turned milky, lost 2 fish and even my xenia laid down! I am a FIRM believer in them now and I WILL be buying another battery backup. I just hope that the new ecotech batteries are as strong as the Icecap one I have!

Again, I do not agree with the high price, but it the long run definitely a great insurance to have them kick in and out as needed!

Yea, I just bought one before the storm and luckily I didn't even need it. I was a bit leary because I thought the price was high too, and also they have an ability to "daisy chain" batteries together. I thought that feature meant that the batteries weren't really strong but if you got a couple you would have enough.

However, Don's actual experience and testimony has made me really happy I bought it. I guess the daisy-chain feature would be needed only for a large tank and multiple VorTechs running.

My only complaints are that the battery's charger took up my last outlet near my tank (no biggy but it was nice having a spare before) and that now when I flip the powerstrip switch that my vortech is on to feed the fish... the battery kicks in and keeps the thing running, lol. I did that like the first couple days in a row and kept forgetting that I now have to hit the feed-mode button instead.
