Volume vs Space

I have/had tanks that look totally different visually but are very close in volume and the fish react to the totally different seascapes. Comparing my 29g hex, 28g cube and 30gl, the fish are leas territorial in the long tank- I think because their territory is horizontal, along with open space horizontally. There is a certain amount of vertical to it- depth of the tank in my experience doesn't have much effect- one last thing, they all know what the front of the tank is, no matter how you scape it lol

As far as corals go- a long tank gives me much more vs vertical, but deeper is better ( she said )

For me I like a shallow. I have two 30” deep tank and it’s hard to keep them clean. Frag tanks for growing corals is great. It’s very easy to clean and you can move frags/corals around a lot easier. Different fish use different part of the tank. Some fish goby/hawk fish like the bottom of the tank.
Other fish like chromis/anthias fish like the top of the tank.
Wrasses and tangs use every inch of the tank and they tend to do better in a deep tank.
