Well water?

I just bought a house and got away from the city water. My well water goes through a unit to remove the iron and that's it.

The seller was required to have a lab do a well water test, and it looks like they tested for a lot of stuff, and everything came back at or under 0.5ppb.

Am I wasting time and money running my water through an RO unit? What exactly should I look for on this test to be sure I am not introducing something harmful?

Thanks in advance.

no you wouldn't be wasting money on a RO unit and hopefully it would last a little longer than someone who doesn't have a water softener or whole house sediment filter. i know what everyone says but for the moment i use well water after the water softener with the rust fighter salt and i have no problems

Test your water straight out of the well(TDS) and test after the softener or whatever filtration you may have. When you have the readings call or e-mail Airwaterice. I did this when I moved a year ago from city water my whole life to well water now. My readings were very impressive to them and they informed me where to put my RODI in line with my softener (before or after)there were pro's and con's to each position and after weighing it all out we decided mine should go after the conditioner.

Back to your original question, you are not wasting any money by filtering the water. I wouldn't do without it. again, talk to AWI, because they explained to me that one way you would tear through membranes fast and the other waymay be more economical to run.

another thing you may or may not be aware of is that the RODI unit should have as close to 60 psi as possible. for every psi under that you loose efficiency considerably. My well pump was set for 35psi off and 25 psi on. when I rand my 100gpd RODI I got about 10 gallons a day if I was lucky until I got the booster pump from AWI. I now get about 90 gpd. Temperatures of the water gets factored in and you loose some efficiency also, but well water is really cold and there's no way to heat it efficiently, so I made sure I had at least the right pressure.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the info. I run my house pressure at 55psi currently, but I do Have a booster pump if need be. I just don't know what this RO is removing, or it is filtering water that doesn't need filtering. I see it as a wasted expense on filters and media if it isn't doing anything but holding up water production.

Do you have a TDS meter? I know you are running a softener, but the RO/DI unit is going to remove alot more than the iron/heavy metals that the softener is designed to remove. I was shocked to see things like a phosphate count and nitrate count on my well water when I tested it straight from the tap. Prompted me to install a whole house filtration system to help clean up the water. Seemed a bit wrong that my fish were getting better water than my kids were! LOL!
