it is blueish gray

To blurry to tell, but maybe a mantis shrimp. Get it out if it is!!!

i noticed last night the tips pulse. i think it may be a head of xenia

That makes sense, it looked like the tail of a shrimp to me. I would say xenia is a good bet, esp if its pulsing.

do i just leave it there, will it eventually attach to a piece of the crushed coral like that and grow or is it too far cut to grow?

I have had them disolve then grow back then disappear again. Just give it a shot by leaving it there it is not going to hurt anything.
