What size ato resivor

So I just got a ato from mark_c at the meeting.. Trying to set my tank up for minimal mantiance while I am away for 8 days. I have an old 2.5 gallon tank laying around. would this hold enough for a 55 gallon tank? I know there is a lot of variables... just want to keep the tank kind of maintenance free for the person that is chicken sitting for me.

I don't think it would be enough . set it up and run it before you plan on leaving .Then adjust holding tank size..Ex my 90 might use 3/4 a gallon day

my 55 uses roughly 3 to 4 gallons when i'm away. go get yourself an orange 5 gallon home depot bucket. that's what i use for my ATO. nice and cheap.

I have a 4 gallon hex tank I use and refill it every 4 or 5 days.

I use a old 10 gallon tank for my 225 and that last about 5 days

i always do it big .My water holding is 35 gal brute in basement under tank with a big mag pump (electrical switch right near tank.

Your resivor should hold plenty of water so I don't think 2.5g will work, mainly if you are leaving for extended time period. Like said above pick up like a 5gal bucket or a 10gal tank. Hell as I write this I just remember I have a 10gal tank sitting in my office at work. A co-worker was going to trash it so I took it (it doesn't look like it ever saw water). If you want it you can have it

I just put a brute can next to my tank for a week while I was away. Would rather not burn the pump out by running out and have to worry about not having enough.

Ausome thanks guys and gals. I'll have to pick up a bigger pump, was originally gonna go with a 7 gallon bucket on the floor but the pump I picked up doesn't have enough power to get it up from the floor (no sump). I'll pick up a bigger one today.

Whatever you buy make sure to get a cover. RODI water can sit like that for a while. The cover will help with evaporation of the ATO water, which will keep you from having to make more.
