What do you think is better, compact florescent or t5. I'm lookin to buy a light for my 55 and wanted to know any problems anyone has with either and which they prefer.

T5...

The Compacts can't get anywhere near the t5s in output and color. My biocube 29 has the CF and they are horrible. They don't make anything in the tank look good. I would love to get a nicer bulb in there once i get some spending cash.

I have to agree with the previous post. T5 is by far the better choice.

The main reason is that T5s, being they are a single long bulb, are very easy to back up with a good reflector. You just can't do this with a PC bulb, since the bulb has two tubes. A big chunk of the light created by a PC shines on the other half of the bulb.

When shopping for a T5 fixture, make sure there is a reflector behind each bulb, and that the bulbs are not just mounted in a box.

I have been looking and am finding alot of t5 as well as t6 fixtures. What is the difference between the two?

T5's are definately better then CF IMO. they run cooler and last longer then CF bulbs. Also The difference between T5's and T6's is bulb size. T5's have a smaller bulb diameter wise

Do people use T6s? I guess they do since they sell them but it's not common to my knowledge. T12s (VHOS) or T5s are the commonly sold lights.

Never heard of T6's. In addition to what has been mentioned above:

The number stands for the diameter in 1/8 increments. So T5 is 5/8" dia. and T12 is 12/8 or 1.5" dia.

Another advantage of the T5 is you can fit more in a given space.

Ebay seller is track_gps light is made by catalina,they give a 5 year warranty this is about the fourth fixture I've bought from them and they have all been GREAT.
