Where you guys buying your fish from

If you're willing to buy on-line, Salgado's has the least expensive fish around, especially with their common 20% or 30% off sale prices:

Considering that their fish are quarantined and medicated, the prices are especially good.

BUT THERE ARE CAVEATS:

Last month they had a power outage due to a nearby installation being done by their local electric company, and they lost most of their fish (including my RS Regal). As a result, they've fallen way, way, way behind on their shipping.

They're really just a mom & pop business, currently operating in Dallas. I've bought from them before, back when they were selling from their basement in Yonkers and personally making deliveries to NJ customers, and when they set up a store in Thornwood, NY. So FWIW, I do trust them.

They'll only ship UPS Next Day to us. For reasons I can't fathom, their shipping costs are unusually high. (My 3.5 to 4.5" Red Sea Regal Angelfish is $191.25. The shipping is $129.08. But, the shipping cost doesn't seem to go up that much with more fish.)

Their website really sucks. There aren't any retail accounts. I've currently got an order in for a dozen fish for me and a local friend, but I can't tell you what fish we have coming or the shipping cost.

I find their bookkeeping a little odd. I have no idea how they would handle credits to your account, but then again, you won't have an account.

They're likely not to pick up their phone, and the message you leave might result in a call back, but might not. They'll reply to emails, but not necessarily quickly.

Unless it has changed, they only ship on Wednesdays and Thursdays. I've had a few bad UPS experiences lately, like "operational problems" that caused my livestock to spend the night in Nebraska. So, an "operational problem" on a Thursday shipment might not get to you until the following Monday.

I'll post additional caveats if/when I think of them. In the meantime, caveat emptor, and enjoy checking out their prices.

I order online from Dr. Reef's Quarantined Fish. I don't have the space to run a QT, so all my fish are DT'd by them before shipping. A year in and no issues so far. Reasonable prices as well.

Did you have to wait a while for fish or did he have what you wanted in stock? I have seen some mixed things about him on bigger sites so was just curious your experience with him.

I think one order was a month wait. The other 2 or 3 only about 2 weeks. A lot of the common stuff he has in stock and already in QT. If there is something he has to get for you, then of course, there is a wait. I have read all the negative reviews with him, but I've had nothing but good experiences. My first ever order, I lost a couple fish after less than a week and he added a credit to my account for the next order.
