White stringy soot

Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction...

215 gallon tank has been up for 6 months. The last three days the bottom of the tank and most the rock have been covered with string soot type junk. It's all over. We have been on top of cleaning the tank and have been doing approx. 50% water change every two - 2 and a half weeks.

Only a few fish which are fed lightly every day. Running a Deltec 702 skimmer that gets the collection cup cleaned every 2-3 days... Water and tank should be spotless. The more water that gets changed out the more junk appears. It settles into every nook in the rocks and blasting it to try and keep it suspended so it can be filtered out. Also cleaning socks out every day.

It seems like this outbreak took place when it started getting dark at 7:00 P.M. :) Nothing really has changed on the tank and parameters are good.

Anyone ever see this stuff before? Thanks for your thoughts.

is it web like? does it radiate from a few spots instead of just being 'everywhere'?

harmless vermetids that live within the rock would be my first guess, but them appearing all of a sudden is not normal. pics would be awesome if you have any

We completed a 30% water change yesterday and added two additional vortec pumps. Will see how everything looks in the morning. :)
