My mother has a dogface puffer she wants snails and hermit crabs. will the puffer eat these also will it eat an anenome or hairy mushrooms? sorry for all the questions. newbie here thanks John

My understanding is that the dogface has that beak, and it continues to grow, like our fingernails. It needs to munch down on hard stuff to wear it down. I know snails are on its menu. Not sure about crabs. I also think they are not reef safe because they find that delectable.
I'd assume a dogface would eat any/all snails & hermits, along with any shrimp or other types of crabs... for a puffer tank the cleaning crew is usually very small, just one... YOU lol
I'd recommend www.thepufferforum.com for lots of puffer owners who can give you better first hand experience. Largest I had was a 3-4" marine green spotted puffer, his main diet was snails (ramshorn I bred for him) but he would pick at the snails & hermits in the tank, I know that had he not jumped he would have eaten then when he was big enough.
