i thought i'd check this and after reading some articles, foundthe
name Kirk FitzHugh who seems to have authored or coauthored
half teh interesting articles on polychaetes in the last 20 years.
(he is currently curator of polchaetes at the natural history museum
of LA county.)
after a few emails, we now believe these are synaptid sea cucumbers.
they need to mature to be sure (actually, i think if i do a dissection
and look at the ossicles, a holothuroid expert could tell).
Does it move or is it stationary? If its stationary its probably a form of feather duster. I have dozens in my refugium. They don't seem to bother anything. If it is moving around, then I am not sure.
