Jenkinson's Aquarium Behind the scenes - January 6th, 9:30 preregistration

Go to Jenkinson's aquarium website. (jenkinsons.com/aquarium I think). Search for events under the Adoption, Encounters and Programs pull down menu and it shows when they are. The next is February 4th. They usually do one a month during the winter. You find a phone number on the web site and...

Coral Focus stacking attempt request, Manchester area.

I would like to try a few focus stacking photo attempts on corals. Some of the newer mirrorless cameras allow you to take a quick series of photos while automatically adjusting the focal distance a short amount at a time. Some like the Canon R7 even make up a composite photo for you. Our you can...

I just wish I knew what the weather was going to be.

Jenkinson's Aquarium Behind the scenes - January 6th, 9:30 preregistration

I note that Jenkinson's Aquarium recently remodeled the upstairs area. It now houses an enclosure for the sloth, Wally. This coming Saturday they have a behind the scenes tour where you can see how they run their giant tanks. We did this over 5 years ago as a club but some of you might be...

Can you guess what house has a reef tank

I was expecting a picture of 2 houses, one with a blue window and perhaps a backup generator.

    Anyone got a pickle?

It's funny what you find that fluoresces in real life when UV light hits it. I used to keep a UV flashlight and go shine it in the tank in the dark. That is where I found unique snails. It turns out that scorpions do also, so it is easy to find them at night.

Hurricanes and Power Outages – What do you do...

I figured that I would add to this thread to remind everyone to be prepared, especially if you have a lot of life in your tanks. I had my pumps on an emergency backup power supply. It lasted for a while, but it ran out before power was restored. Looking back, I should have run it on a on off...

    Does your reef smell?

I was watching a show narrated by Will Smith called Welcome to Earth and the episode was Smell. It claimed that corals give off a smell in the gas bubbles produced by the zooxanthellae inside them. This smell is one of the things that allows ocean animals (such as see turtles) to locate dry...

    pod hotel

Yes. This coral rock needs to be kept in the shade or coraline algae will cover it and it will lose the red look (but then it is also not as colorful in the shade or in the water). The first picture is a piece in a new tank. The second in an established tank at the bottom right, Note that I...

    pod hotel

I always liked organ pipe coral. It is colorful, acts as live rock, and has an interesting coral tubular construction. It is also hard to find and may be expensive.

    Virus quantity in the ocean

I am roughly a year without a tank. While I don't miss making and lugging the water, I do miss seeing the subtle changes and surprises you find in the tank and the tranquility of watching it. I loved taking photos of the fish and other inhabitants. Now I will need to do it more at public...

    Virus quantity in the ocean

I recently read that there were more virus particles in a liter of ocean water than there are humans on the planet. This boggles my mind. but it also makes more sense to me when Paul B uses ocean water (NSW) to immunize the fish in his tank, or at least to build up their immune system. I had...

I was think about it. The light is much too strong for a lobster though as they come out at night. I was also thing about glofish.

$40 - 20 gallon tank and18" Orbit Marine Pro with Ramp timer or Best Offer.

I lowered the price. This is a great light. Pipe organ coral is not included as it is gone. This makes a great low cost quarantine tank for fish and frags.
