help needed on Oceanic Tech 70Gallon overflow

I setup a true durso with 1.25" PVC and it works so much better. I bought all the parts at Lowes for a little over $6. Much much quieter, it still tends to gurgle siphon, every once in a while I would hear a big sucking sound then rush of water. I think it may be due to the size of the air hole...

    TDS Meter reading

Is that 0 ppm for RO output or from RO+DI? If so what membrane are you running. Tap is around 220, 3 pre-filters then RO comes out at around 4-15ppm then the DI brings it down to 0 ppm.

help needed on Oceanic Tech 70Gallon overflow

Thanks for the tip, hmm filter pads... good thought by they may clog over time and the baffle may raise the water behind the baffles. I'll look at that. Here are pictures of the old setup to give you an idea. The only difference now is the change in pump and additional plumbing for the...

help needed on Oceanic Tech 70Gallon overflow

I had a mag7 acting as the return pump from the refugium/sump to the display. Flow was decent, sound was loud but manageable but definitely not dead silent. I wanted to add a chiller, UV and phosphate reactor without adding additional pumps. So to do it, I upgraded the 70watt 700GPH to an Eheim...

    RO/DI - Ebay

I bought one but beware some of the components are junk. I would suggest Air,Water,Ice. I bought DI resin, a 150GPD membrane and a new membrane housing. The old membrane housing from one from ebay cracked at the o-ring. With the AWI replacement parts I now get 0PPM without exhausting the DI very...

What are your electrical costs for running your Reef System???

Mine is in the un-ecofriendly neighborhood of $60-80 depending on temp outside. My pre-tank electric bills were in the $45 range before that. I switched everything to energy saver except the fishtank...

arrrg my town lost power and my fishtank too, learned a lesson!

I think this should go in this forum but I do as an equipment question... Well, our town lost power last night around 10pm and we finally got power restored around 4:30am. The tank was dead still, temp hovered in around 80.2 and I was worried about oxygen depletion. I should know better than...

    gonopora problem from fish

Seriously, I would say put it back in the ocean. My has started to its long road down hill and I'm nowhere near a reef so I'm looking to plumb a tank for it to get my fish away and will also, do feedings with that special protein mash more often.

ricordia went missing, don't want to rip tank apart, any options for finding it?

I had a Ricordia that dislogged itself from rock work (darn the superglue) and got itself jammed into a crack between two rocks. Now its gone, missing in action for about 3 weeks. I used flashlights and small exploratory rock movements during WC but I couldn't find it. I really don't want to...

POSSABLE MAJOR CHANGES TO OUR HOBBY......

I think support of the bill would be good. Conservation is a good thing. Most of my live stock are either aquacultured frags or tank breed. The only thing that wasn't available locally was the rock.

    gonopora problem from fish

I've tried to target feed the goniopora a mixture from this site http://www.goniopora.org/. I will have to see about putting it in a strawberry basket to keep the fish out. I saw the female clown upsetting it this morning. Also, another question, what would be the best anemone to get for the...

    gonopora problem from fish

I have a very nice gonopora doing well in my tank but there are two problems. One is that I have a six stripe wrasse that picks at it at times and spits out flesh. I know that can't be good. The second issue is my false clown. My female clown like to get in it thinking its a host. I don't think...

New to reef keeping starting Oceanic Tech 70G

EuroReef RS-80, its ok but I think because I run the skimmer almost 24x7 the pinwheel impeller is warped making it noisy. As the saying goes if it ain't broke don't fix it so for now I haven't thought about replacing the skimmer until the noise gets worse.

New to reef keeping starting Oceanic Tech 70G

blange, Thanks for the tips. I did read about them but I'll have to make sure all my parameters are good. So far nothing major except for my accidental zooanthid sting on a torch. I'm going to keep it as as with nothing more to add until october.

    Newly Bare Bottum

My first I tank had about 2-3 inches of sand and after 2 years I broke it down for an upgrade. It was very stinky, I can only leave it to your imagination. In the new tank I can't believe the amount of stuff I siphon, it would probably collect if I had a sandbed.

help with torch got stung by zooanthid colony

Well its too late :-[ The last of the heads have started to release its flesh. Looks like reapers veil as others have called it. I'll keep it in there a bit longer. Its in the refugium in the sump. The hard part of my setup is its hard to find a low flow area, everything swirls and surges.

help with torch got stung by zooanthid colony

Thanks, I haven't touched the torch except to move it into the sump. I'll leave it there and see what happens. Of all the LPS and SPS in my tank, that torch seems to be the most sensitive. Everything else is thriving.
