Does anyone pump their used water change water into a sump pump. Not looking to see if you think it's allowed but if it will damage the pump. I assume like the bilge pump on a boat in salt water or the pumps of various kinds in our tanks any decent sump pump can handle it fine but I was curios...
Yes. That's a fair assessment. It's someone else's glass room. I wouldn't try that again. Too much heat and my lighting schedule was always a problem. I fed algae with a prolonged lighting schedule but the alternative was to have the lights on all day while I was at work and that sort of...
Slowly but surely tank ver 1.02 is pulling through the planning stages. (Note, ver 2.0 i.e., upgrade remains a few years away....).
The biggest changes will be under-stand in sump, plumbing and flow. I removed the baffles to reconfigure the sump layout. I'm going from [drain->return<-fuge] to...
Sadly Jose I'm embarrassed to say VERY little has happened. So far my big accomplishment was sweating some copper and getting my RO/Di set up. It has been living in my driveway. BRS order is in transit (missed the group buy by 3 days- doh!) and I will soon start making water to fill the tank...
I'm holding all my livestock in a 110g stock tank - still trying to get things set up after we moved last month. I noticed about 2 weeks ago that my brittle star was in bad shape. It had a large chunk missing from the body and the rest is very sunken-in. I thought it was dead but when I went to...
For the record, getting baffles out of the sump to reconfigure SUCKED. I'm back to a plain old 40b again. The DIY glass cut won't work. Looks like what I have is tempered. My brother in law probably got it at the same cost. Anyway I'll see if that glass can work or I'll get some acrylic...
Thanks Jose. Very nice of you to offer. I think I'm ok. I just have a lot of little stuff to do. If I can manage to get the (house) plumbing done before my wife realizes that the house water is shut off I'll be all set. The rest will be smooth sailing.
Is your new tank "up" yet? I'm gonna have...
If you find the name let me know. It's a std 40 breeder and the glass is fairly thick. I don't remember exactly. My brother in law got it done for me right before he passed away. He was in the glazer's union so he had all kinds of contacts when it came to glass and windows. Anyway I don't even...
Not feeling too brave George but I may not have a choice. I haven't found my clamps yet and the metal edge will be hard to come by - my table saw has all beveled edges and my band saw table is too small.
To be honest I'd still like to find a taker for what's left so I can focus on the house...
I thought of that. Thought it would be a detritus trap and end up like the sock getting clogged and needing to be changed or cleaned once or twice a week
Thanks guys...
I will run a skimmer and I think that's as big a factor in bubble creation as the drain. That said I've gotten used to some micro bubbles. I only had 1 trap with my old setup so fuge bubbles had a free ride up to the DT.
George. I think I may take you up on your offer. Trying to...
thanks Jose. I know you're right but I'm anxious to get you your stock tank back. Seriously I hate that everything subjected to the conditions of no filtration. I think my brittle star is the latest casualty. It's half dead. Looks like something very large was snacking on it. Those things have...
that was my old setup. I'm not crazy about the drain tee. If I had 2 drains it would work better. I was also conflicted before. I ran a sock on my drain but not on my tee to the fuge. I'm not sure it was worth using the sock on only half the setup.
Also I ran a pump to increase the flow in my...
I'm getting ready to setup my sump and plumbing now that the move is behind me. I want to do this ASAP b/c the stock tank isn't a great long term solution. I'd like to change a few things since I have it all broken down anyway. Current setup was all hard PVC plumbing 1" drain split 75% to...
any sand left after your 3?
lights were just a casualty of the move time constraints and not burdening my neighbor with too much equipment - especially DIY electronics. That could scare someone who doesn't understand...
