Alright, now I need a canopy and a way to explain to my wife about the new lights.

I'm doing another waterchange tonight before bed and have had the tank blacked out to help with the algae. Plus it's difficult to look at right now.

need help in suggestion of sandbed or no sandbed

Not enough of a stir to kick sand that far into the water column, but just enough to release some detritus and keep the sand loose. I prefer to do it right before a waterchange too so I can export some of it.

    recession

yeah, I'm going to start bringing it down through waterchanges since it wasn't working.

Mg level is high at ~1800-1900. I was hoping it would take out some of the hair algae but no. edit: I also changed out 4-5 gal of water and can do it again too.

need help in suggestion of sandbed or no sandbed

1-2" should be fine. I bought a dowel rod at the hardware store that I use to stir the parts of the sandbed weekly. edit: a cuke would work too.

    recession

So yesterday I removed a ton of hair algae from my nano tank. Almost a McDonald's kiddie meal worth. some corals got bumped around and I think I have some serious chem warfare going on. My Kenya tree is all shriveled up, the flesh has receded on my candy cane and frogspawn to the point skeleton...

need help in suggestion of sandbed or no sandbed

I personally prefer a sandbed and you should be able to play with the MPs so you don't a have a sandstorm. Shoot I've seen 20H tanks with a MP20 and a sandbed so it's doable.

    Best RO/DI system?

I love my typhoon III, but look at the spectrapure units too since they're on sale. AWI is also a sponsor so another tick for them.

    any LED Brainiacs here?

K, I'll do some googling later and see what I can find for you since I'm on leave later. Where abouts do you live? Oh and I noticed I have some shimmer on my tank with T5s. I have a lot of surface movement (two Koralia 4s in a 75g) and eggcrate over the tank. It's not MH shimmer, but it's...

    any LED Brainiacs here?

Sorry about that John. I'll stop since it's going/gone nowhere fast. I was thinking about your dilemma earlier today and something you could try is going to lowes, sears, best buy, Spenser's gifts or places like that that would sell led light strings so you can give it a try. Plus if it...

    any LED Brainiacs here?

K, so let me clarify some things... Using 12 Cree XR-E Cool White ran at 1000mA and 12 Cree Royal Blue LEDs ran at 700mA spaced 2.5" center to center in an 8 x 3 grid you will get the equivalent of a 150W MH with 60 degree optics and the equivalent of a 250 MH with 40 degree optics. Now let...

    any LED Brainiacs here?

LED rope would be cheaper, but I haven't seen the powerbrights in action yet. I wonder if Allquatics will let me take a look over one of their coral tanks... 60 degree optics give you about the equivalent of a 150W MH and 40 degree optics bump that up to a 250W. A couple things to note, a 5mm...

    any LED Brainiacs here?

You could add the LEDs around the fixture, but ideally to get the best effect the LEDs would need to be in the Tek fixture. You could use some of the cheap flexible LED strips you can find on ebay with a tight viewing angle and just run them around the edge of the tank if all you are looking for...
