it could be bacterial growth from dead tissue on the rock, once the inverts get to it they suck it up like marrow...yumy! rod

the camera is focusing on the rock behind it, try stepping back a bit so the autofocus can center on what you want to show, take that shot in focus and then croop it so you show only that part...should give you some clarity so we can all help. Rod
