You could just drive around the area, and see if you find some apartments/condo's and just walk into their offices, or call their offices. Most of the places have some sort of advertisement or sample rooms in the complex. That's how i found my apartment.

I would try just regular instant ocean salt, and when you need more calc and so on, move on to reef crystals. I think these two are pretty standard, and good for beginners. No need to do any extra mixing, just dump into water let it mix for a bit, and then add to your water.

which salt are you using, and don't use Tap water, use RODI water from either a LFS, or buy an RODI unit. Trust me it'll save you headache of algae later on :-P. Once you have the RODI water + Salt mixed just do some larger water changes, to get rid of the water you have in your tank already.
