    Your "Fantasy Tank"

When I saw this thread, my very first thought was, "My fantasy tank would have Jessica Simpson in it." But then I thought, no, I take the high road here and let it go by. But, now that the precedent has been set.....

    Huge Reef in Red Bank

I wish the author had included some background information about HOW the tank came to be there. Considering the immense costs involved in constructing and maintaining a tank and system like that, it seems unlikely that somebody in management did it for decoration. There had to have been a...

Tying into the Basement - Pic Intensive

You know, one very nice perk to knowing people like you guys is...having pictures to show my wife. ;D "See how easy you have it? Look at what I COULD be doing."

To scrub or scrap, that is the question

We had a big hair algae thread last week. http://www.njreefers.org/joomla/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=26&topic=7879.0 If Subliminal can get his tank back without a "do-over", anybody should be able to recover. (not belittling Sub's talents - just saying that if that tank could come back ANY...

    One Outlet?

This data came from an old Aquarist's Online article, where the author was studying power useage/operating costs of his 120 gallon reef tank w/ 30 gal sump. Here's a link if you want to read. http://www.advancedaquarist.com/2002/3/short EQUIPMENT AMPS Halide 1 (400W) 3.4 amps...

    Sunscreen Kills Coral?

For the last several years when we've vacationed in the Carribean all tours to reefs, national underwater parks, dolphin swims, etc. have banned use of traditional sunscreens. They require you to use a sunscreen that is biodegradable.

    failure to launch

Wimpy a** saltwater fish. I can keep 2 dozen shiners ina 1 gallon bucket ALL DAY, and only lose 1 or 2. You'd think 5 fish ina 65 gal tank could survive for a measly 12 hours. They musta all had panic attacks and hyperventilated. What can you expect from fish that half the time have to DECIDE...

    hair algae

I almost snorted soda out my nose when I saw that first picture, subliminal. I looked like you had a green Irish setter living in your tank. It looks like a character in a Dr.Seuss book. Horton hears a reefbeast?

Water Change Disasters - A New Twist!!!

Wasn't a disaster, but I felt pretty dumb. I was filling my new 90 gallon up for the first time. My tap water is extremely cold, so I was mixing hot/cold water in an empty 30 gal on the floor on the other side of the basement, dechlorinating - then pumping it up into the 90. After I had...

    aquatraders T6 units

Thanks for posting, blange3. I saw the add for these guys in a magazine a few weeks ago, and was "wow'd" bye their prices. I was hoping that the Chinese manufacturing boom had finally hit the bottom line of the aquarium products industry. (maybe it did, but not in a good way)

    hair algae

Old light bulbs will definitely increase algae growth. I found that out personally over the last few months. :( I also saw a post a few days ago by a guy wondering why he had an algae problem (he ran his lights 24/7 - yeah, that'll do it.)

what species is best to fight aiptasia??

While I think the best approach to dealing with Aiptasia is NAPALM, I was finally able to get the suckers out of my 40 with a Berghia Nudibranch. Absolutely fish sells them in Clifton for $30. They will die after all the Aip is gone, but it's a worthy sacrifice in my opinion.

    Controlling Star Polyp growth

I added a couple different types of Star polyps to my reef a few months back. Now, I see both of them starting to spread out a bit. Which is OK for now, but I forsee a time coming soon when I may want to limit their quest for world domination. When they expand, they seem to do so by extruding a...

    looking for "reef janitor" packages

You could try these guys down on Route 22. Ocean Gallery II Pets & Water Gardens 908 US Highway 22 North Plainfield, NJ They don't sell janitor packages, but their prices on hermits and snails are about the lowest I've seen in retail stores. (of course, I found this out AFTER I'd bought...

    Old Skool tank

While I do use a Jaubert plenum, it's set up using entirely aragonite sand - no crushed coral. It pretty much makes my tank automatic. Calcium and alkalinity maintain themselves. I don't do much other than run a skimmer and change the water.
