the exit line for the deltec has a very small inside diameter. It just built up with calcium. My apologies, it did not build up with actual kalkwasser paste. We only have them stirring for 15 minutes 10 times a day or so, not 24/7. Running them continuously in my opinion would where them out. In...
It does void the warranty. I have replaced the maxi jet on my PM stirrer 4 or 5 times in the 3 years I've had it. I use 2 seperate Deltec stir bar reactors at work and haven't had a problems at all (knocks on wood) except for the drain of the reactor being plugged with kalk and flooding all over...
I feel both should be run simultaneously. Calcium reactors are great for supplying calcium and buffering Alkalinity as well as adding other trace elements depending on the media, but will lower the system pH because of the addition of CO2. A kalk system (reactor of not) offers a way to supply...
I would disagree with this. I have a 120 display (180 total volume) and have fewer than a dozen decent sized snails, even less hermits (scarlets only), and 6 emerald crabs in my display with 2 tigertail cucumbers and 2 fighting conch. If overgrazing occurs and herbivores die off, algae will...
Phyl,
i have a MRC (CR-4 ?) its the compact dual chamber model. It didnt come with a pH probe port so I had to find a way to get to the chamber water without making a mess everytime
ARM turns to mush more easily than large grain Koralith. The pH going into my second chamber is ~7.1,... 7.4 out of second chamber. I never checked my pH going into the first chamber though.
i use koralith media in my first chamber (4-6mm) and ARM in my second chamber. ARM dissolves at a higher pH than koralith seems to. Both chamber drop at a consistent rate with each other. Effluent pH stays around 7.4.
my 2 cents
