yeah, acans do not like sand in theyre mouths! i also keep mine on the sandbed, bout 120" from mh, and theyre lovin it! i was gonna move them up since now theyre use to the new lighting, but i decided to make an acan island on the sandbed, since there is so much open space down there...

i am in the same line of work as you steaman. in our feild yes, a ball valve is mrore precise. but in this hobby no. if we could use a brass ball valve in our sumps, life would be good! but pvc ball valves turn like crap! ;D

a gate valve is more precise! with a ball valve the handle is connected directly to the ball, and when you turn the handle its kinda tough, and it skips a lot. so its a pain to find that sweet spot. with a gate valve, the handle is like a knob. which you turn, and that turns a stud that is...

does your tank have returns that are drilled thru the back wall?? if so you could take one of them and plumb it behind the rocks into a spraybar pointed on an angle towards the glass....
