FWIW, DKH and PH measurements in RODI water can be discarded. With hobby grade test kits, it is almost impossible to get accurate results in RODI water as there are not enough ions in the water to allow the tests to work with any accuracy. This is especially true of PH.
Carbons differ highly in quality and ability to absorb. Though many will disagree on how long a certain brand of carbon will last, all will agree it depends on bio load. Carbon absorbtion drops off quickly in the beginning, then levels out before it stops absorbing.

Its normal, some salt mixes are better than other as far as residual. The problem is worse if you are the type that puts the salt in first, instead of the water.
Try going here and looking at the 2 part kits. It doesn't get any cheaper or easier than this.

Magnesium levels drop directly proportional to the CA usage in your system. I forget the actual ratio, but generally when at the your targeted levels and to maintain those levels, for every gallon of CA you add, you will be adding 20oz of magnesium.

So its is either 7-11 DKH or 2.5 to 3.5 meg/l or 125 to 196 PPM. These are all measurement scales for the same alkalinity.
