going to 2nd the reefcleaners.org for that big a tank based off of many reviews on nano-reef.com & the owner john maloney posts alot on there & responds well. Also he has a very nice selection of macro algae & gives away random critters occasionlly on nano-reef, most recently a mantis shrimp I...
Haven't gotten to see him play yet, keep thinking the Thursday games start at 8:00 & I'm usually at the gym till 9:00 so I don't bother. I think he gives them options & Philly likes to use some gimmick plays so it could be interesting.
Here's 2 links for various 40 breeders w/ picts, equipment lists, etc. Also just check the members aquariums section on www.nano-reef.com tons of 40 breeders builds there.
Love the size of a 40 breeder, it will be the next tank I setup...
They had a floating pool table, that's awesome. Great picts there from the dive & snorkeling. We went snorkeling off the coast of Belize on our honey moon 5 years ago(did a cruise). Nice place to snorkel since Belize was a crap hole.
Got home from work yesterday and my Plate was a little annoyed at getting slimed by my Flower Pot coral so he had moved over a bit. I have a loose clump of roughly 8 zoa's that float around the bottom of my tank & get kicked about by the hermits. When I went to bed I found the clump of zoa's...
umm, the regular florescent is a T8 or T12 fixture, will the bulbs fit? I doubt it drives them the same or that the reflector would be very good for a T5. The reflectors play a big part in how well that bulb would penetrate.
That's a shot of El Fab's tank from the links he posted. Nano-reef.com has some great stuff, he started w/ the stock light from the JBJ picotope 3 gallon, than went to that current satellite in the pict and than got an LED setup from Evil66. That JBJ 3 gallon and the finnex 4 gallon are pretty...
Just got back from Allquatics. They had 4 plate corals, 2 orange ones, 1 semi redish one, and a light green one. To be honest the 2 orange & the reddish one seemed a bit on the sad side. The light green one wasn't to bad looking. All were $60.00. Sadly you can sorta tell whats been sitting in...
20's nice to since you can upgrade it to a 40 later on if you need to. There's a coupla decent prices on ebay right now for a few, most likely shoot up in price, of course, but they're out there.
I use API saltwater test kit and reef test kit currently, they're cheap and accurate according to everything I've read. I should get a magnesium kit though. If I could afford digital tests I would, I find testing very tedious and don't do it often enough.
I don't see how it could, this is brought up occasionly on nano-reef.com & reefcentral and if I remember right the general consensus is it lasts for quite awhile thus why I dont' stress over mine sitting. It gets musty smelling but as long as it's sealed, not like sitting in a garage w/ cars...
I bought mine at allquatics here in Hamilton. it's a 35-40 min drive from Moorestown straight down 295, easy drive though, I bought a bright orange one listed at 60$, they do give a 15% discount if you show your NJ reefer card. Last time I went in was 3 weeks ago they had a very large green one...
They are neat corals, they do need to go in the sand and can get pretty large so make sure you have some space, also they can move so keep an eye on it at first to make sure it's not getting to close to your other stuff. Mine stayed put until I put a torch right above it, it than shifted about a...
I'm definatly no pro but I don't think I'd start off supplementing everything immediately, especially w/ no corals in the tank, I don't think you should be losing that much Calcium & such especially if you're keeping up on water changes.
I store my saltwater in a 20 gallon container, I only change roughly 3-4 gallons a week so it takes some time to go thru the container, I know my water smells semi funky but it looks fine and haven't had any problems, no slime in the can or anything. I generally start a pump & heater in the...
All the more reason to upgrade!
A: You'll be home more often for awhile because you'll be exhausted & not want to go out
B: If you upgrade you can than keep the kid free ranging in the 55 during winter. Get some hamster fluff & one of those hamster bottles and your set.
Congrats, it's awesome...
I don't have a magnesium test kit, i'll have to get one. Either way the GSP didn't make it, the white from the Acro hitting it kept spreading and since the GSP has never opened ever I ditched it.
I know Plate Corals can get large. Mine is in an optimal spot for pellets to land on it and it wolfs them down daily. My hermits will trample any and all corals in my tank to get to food, they will not walk on the Plate Coral however. Can a Plate Coral eat a hermit? I've seen pictures of a mini...
Hmm I was just looking at this stuff yesterday to. How much did shipping run ya? I only need a pound so I just don't think w/ shipping it would be worth it for me.
I wouldn't do it. That big a tank is to much of an investment once filled to risk. Spend the $60-$80, make a stand that will fit it and hold it for sure. That stand fails and you've got a big mess on your hands.
