You are correct about the patent fight between Solaris and Orbital. But it doesnt stop other smaller companies/people from doing it either in China or other European countries or even DYI version that you can find plans for on RC. My interest in this topic was started by Wingo and his lights...

I would assume it works along the same lines. the thing that bothers me most is that I dont know parameters of good reef aquarium LED light.

I think you may need to take reflectors out due to size - it fits T5 fittings but might be too big witht he reflector on the side.

thanks Phyl - that's what I was thinking too. If I add a frag tank with one overflow - anything close to 3000gph should be more than enough. even if it is too much - I would rather tee it off back to sump than worry that it is not enough.
