i am being seduced by the dark side of the internet. ebay
i went looking for 4 new PC bulbs knowing that i eventually wanted to pony up and get a MH fixture for my 55g. this is what i found...
i think you can get these dollies for that trash can too

i just use old salt and kitty litter buckets. my 55g takes almost 3 days to evap a 5g buckets worth of top-off.
Re: Jasonanatal's 120 gallon "Natural Simplicity" Reef Aquarium.
You might want to get a 3rd clip too. If the yellow is really being that territorial about the clip then he may be able to protect another one at the same time.
I know that for cats if you have multiple cats then you should have...
just picked up some new critters for my tanks.
for the big tank:
my local shop had fire shrimp mis-marked as coral banded shrimp and i picked one up for $15!
2 emerald crabs
then for my 12g:
few more nerites for cleaner glass
and a bicolor blenny.
i know that i'll probably eventually have to...
the sump and refugium are working great. I've also added an electric float valve controlled fresh water top off system from aquahub to keep the salinity in check.
however, I do still have elevated nitrates... they drop to almost 20ppm whenever I do a 10% water change, but creep back up over...
so after a long visit to melevsreef.com and looking at his sump designs i decided to slightly alter my sump. still has the siphons, but i think it will workout. check out the pic.
refugium is on the right, sump on the left. both have glass baffles to hold siphons and both are fed with ball...
everyone with an overflow box relies on a single U siphon with religion and no one ever questions that application... the baffles and siphon that i describe in my diagram operate on the same exact principles.
i'm planning on using store bought clear 1 piece U siphons. multiple. probably 3, but...
i had a long car ride today, so what else would i be contemplating but sump plumbing.
my stand is 10 years old and i really don't want to take it apart to squeeze in a 20 long, but i think i have come up with a viable alternative.
see attached.
comments?
i have 2 questions that i'll throw...
looks like you need to invest in some lemon pledge for that poor dresser!
you are ready for live rock and a test kit that tests for ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates. phosphate and calcium are good to have too, but you don't really need to worry about those just yet.
don't rush to get the light...
weekend update:
lets see,
i cleaned out each pump, power head, and the skimmer
i found a limpet in the rio on my skimmer so i actually do have cleaner, and i'm sure there are about 20 or so that i'm not seeing.
nitrates are still high
and i built a Stockman standpipe for my overflow box
i don't have any fish yet, and the only corals in the tank are some mushrooms, cabbage, and 2 small kenya trees. so i have some hearty corals, they should be OK.
things that i have done in an attempt to help alleviate the nitrates are daily 4G (<10%) water changes and i removed the bio-balls...
