Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
No problem, glad it's helping you.
It's a product my company/store sells and since we are the only place to get it I don't want to answer the question here in a public forum as this is for general help and shouldn't be about specific products not generally available to the public. If you move...
Most skimmers are pretty touchy after being cleaned and/or restarted. I got tired of playing that game a long time ago so I drilled a hole in the skimmers collection cup to drain to a bucket.
I never need to empty the cup this way and every few days I take a paper towel and go around the inside...
In a 225 I wouldn't worry or think there is going to be much of a problem. I've got a bunch of different tangs in my tank and haven't had a problem yet.
I've setup my dad's tank and a few friends tank with the same 2 tangs and haven't really seen a problem either. I personally think the...
I'm definitely thinking poly (glass like) roof. It would still need additional light however. I'm actually trying to find a digital PAR meter with computer interface that I can use with some programming to turn on/off lights based on the natural light available. I've thought the system out quite...
Yep, there are silicate test kits and they work pretty decent.
The only problem you'll have however is that you usually have to use a phosphate media to remove silicates. GFO and the aluminum products both take out silicates AFTER they remove the phosphates.
Why not take a water sample to a...
Enough said before I even said it. :) You know what you need to do then right?
If the algae is growing and thriving you got nutrients regardless of what the test kit says. Besides having phosphates you will also have ammonia, nitrite or nitrates present as the algae needs both. If I were to...
I definitely like your wet skimming method and as anyone who went down my basement on Sunday can tell you I do the same thing but pretty aggressive. :)
Overall I think it's an excellent way to get water changes done and to keep up with all the trace element additions but you'll probably find...
Sometimes I think it feels that way! Somehow I got the feeling some obstacle is going to popup keeping me from doing the real big tank. It's a nagging feeling. The other stuff is a done deal without much thought involved. It's amazing how much grief it is to get permits from the city to expand...
It's gonna get bigger too. Don't know if you noticed but there is an empty wall up in the office/fish room. I'm putting another 265 on that wall. I'm either going to do another reef tank (gotta start stocking my corals again) maybe a themed tank like Red Sea or Australian or do a big bufferfly...
No problem at all. I thought it would be easier to just replace it then try and regen it especially since the day ended up being busy for me. When it's time to regen it I can always show you the procedure but for now you are set!
Carlo
While it ended up being a busy day for me as I had promised to help a bunch of people will little things the day of the meeting (those things pile up quickly) I didn't get to spend the time I wanted with people during the meeting. Running around flipping breakers and such didn't help either...
Thanks so much Phyl & Billy. I know this type of thing takes up a whole lot more time then most people assume.
I just thought I'd say a BIG THANKS to both of you and all the officers for all the hard work you guys put into the club on our behalf behind the scenes.
It's no wonder why our club...
Probably one pound of media will last you quite a while then. The sulfur breaks down very slowly. No need to purchase a whole lot at one time for the start up.
The Matrix on the other hand is a one time purchase and you want to have enough to fill the reactor at least 3/4.
Carlo
BTW, make...
Hey Phyl any chance you could publish the slide show online here so we have it for reference? With all the running around on Sunday I didn't get a chance to see it.
Carlo
No problem, glad it's helping people.
Carlo
PS if you are using some type of media like matrix you actually don't need that much sulfur in the reactor. Visually an inch of sulfur is plenty. It's only supplying a food source for the bacter and will last a year or more easily. The media itself...
