Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
This is a great idea. I have been on a few deep sea trips off the cost of New Jersey. Bringing the wife and kids would not be on the agenda but I would be happy to make the trip and meet some NJRC members.
Please help me identify this spot on my tang’s tail. I searched the internet for fish diseases and parasites but came up with no match. I am not sure if this fish should be treated or not. The tang appears to be healthy now and through the three week quarantine. I can try to catch the tang...
Thanks for tracking this down. I was interested in this after hearing the interview on the Reef Threads Podcast.
Are we ready for hybrid corals to replace the native species? I would prefer this over a dead reef.

My suggestion would be to build the rockscape inside the dry tank before adding water or sand. Consider adding egg crate (or plexiglass) on the bottom before building your rockscape to protect the glass if you are not going bare bottom. Next add the sand which may cloud the water but this is a...
Very cool. How did you get the fish to swim upside down for that shot. :-p.
I guess you are using a controller now. I use an automatic fish feeder by Fishmate which seems to do a good job. I can see a controller my future also.
Have a good time.

Yes amazing that a sixth grader made this discovery. These fish are very resilient survivors. It is good that Florida has banned the import of these fish and encourages the collection of them in their local waters.
:)
That is good news. It started with one but now I have several. Possibly made their way into the tank with the snails.
The snails are leaving their eggs all over. If I scrape the eggs from the glass the blenny will snatch them up.
The corals are doing great so far and the cyano is getting...
Thanks the corals are starting to show growth which is very exciting. The snails are putting eggs all over the place. I think the island approach would reduce aggression in the fish, time will tell.

The pod population increases when maintenance is needed in my tank. I notice when there is an excessive amount of food available such as pellets, a shrimp molt or a dead critter stuck in the rocks the population increases dramatically. A few small pods on the glass are normal but I start...
The neon green pocillipora is a small beauty for sure which is in a high flow area of the tank. The red montipora digitata looks redish brown under my light but when the actinic is on they are a beautiful red and pink color. The green birdsnest is beautiful in all kinds of light, a real...
Thanks, I have not identified the first (green color) and second (red color) one yet but my guess is two variations of montipora corals. The Duncan is doing great when fully opened it is the size of my fist. I think it stuck its tongue out when I was taking its picture. :p
Things are good with the corals thanks to everyone who helped out, especially Pete. Now I am officially keeping a reef tank! Dance
The photos attached show some of the corals that were gifted to me. So far I have not lost any but a few zoa polyps due to poor placement in a high flow area...
Yes I agree that the basics of macro photography do apply here. Traditionally you would need a clamp to secure the subject from blowing in the wind (or wait for a calm day). With corals shutting down the pumps may have a similar effect. In addition you have to deal with shooting through glass...
