I think you should be looking at the HO high output T5's. You could use less bulbs (reflectors, ballasts, end caps) and I believe they penetrate the water better.
Thank you for hosting a great meeting James and Federica. The picture of 'both ways' James is a classic. I personally like how attentive my wife was to the speaker in the 5th picture.
We apply this type of foam to whole houses for insulation. It is very expensive, but an extremely efficent insulator. I do know that once it cures, there is absolutely no outgassing that occurs. But I cannot vouch for how safe it would be in an aquarium. I can only tell you that the article I...
I recall seeing a German aquarist using uncovered foam on the tank bottom instead of sand. They had high flow so they didn't want the sand pushed around yet they didn't want the flat bare glass look. They might have sprinkled sand in, but I do not recall an expoxy coating. It did look better...
I have some "just in case". How many are you looking for? My deal would be that I would want them replaced so I have them when I need them. PM me, I'm in the Cherry Hill area.
I would think you could use a valve after the solenoid to set the flow to one drip per second for example. Then you could turn the solenoid on for longer periods. At night you could drip for two hours, stir for a couple minutes, settle for an hour, then drip for another two hours.
Tunze sells a $50 "adapter" that allows you to hook up their pumps to any 12 volt battery. The pumps already run on 12 volts converted from 110 volts. So, it should be a fairly straightforward battery backup setup. I was planning to tie into a large marine battery I have as a sump battery backup...
A late thanks to your growing family for hosting the meeting. I didn't think it was possible to have 500 BEAUTIFUL corals in 250 gallons, but I now know otherwise.
Dr. Jim (vendor) will sell them to you with a release. It is a prescription item for animals and thus isn't easy to get on the street. If you are going to the meeting today, I could supply you with one which treats 380 gallons. The norm seems to be three separate treatments to kill the whole red...
Unbelievable. I wish they showed him actually making something. Like what kind of tools can carve that small, how does he hold it, and then to paint it too?!?!?
I use RODI as the issue is mineral deposits left when the water evaporates. I would think tap water would off gas chlorine at least. John, I don't know how you don't use water. I even use water on humid nights.
I think this link is very informative. It may be too complicated for a smaller tank, but at least you will understand how it all works.

Phil,
My guy is confident he can handle this. His big question is how authentic you want to go. He thinks the soffit is old tongue&groove bead board from the picture. This would be difficult and expensive to replace, but doable. The best thing is to call him directly and he would come down to...
