I have 2 of these skimmers (one only has a single beckett installed on it, the other has 2) and both have waste collectors attached. I keep my water level just below the flange on both. When I want to just clean the collection cups I do turn my gate valve down just a bit so the water level drops...

Give it a chance to get comfortable in your tank. Often they haven't eaten in a long while if they were shipped far and take some coaxing to open. Many of them open during the day if you train them to. It's best to feed at the same time each day and after a week or so of that it will begin to...
