Well after a batch of bad salt went unnoticed, the tank crashed and I lost most of my corals. Fortunately the fish were unaffected. Now the tank is making a recovery. Survivor corals are the plates, acan lord, cyphastrea, mystic sunset monti, and the rr nauti spiral. My starburst cap might...

My Male Clown is Hosting The Mushroom

My ora picasso refuses to host anything I offered. I gave up. Gold torch, xenia, zoas, acans, etc. They just swam in the water.

    The 210 tank build

Sorry about your losses. To get rid of aptasia, I'd recommend you try some berghia nudibraunchs once you're tank stablizes a bit. My fish left mine alone while they ate my aptasia to extinction and then presumably died of starvation before I could find any of them (they are small...

    my temp is rising??

No big deal. 71 is the odd man out, discount that and all those temps are within acceptable range. So long as the temp is stable you're fine. Refractometers use the refractive index to determine the amount of salt. And the refractive index won't really change between 76 and 79 degrees to any...

    tank crashing. not sure why.

If the issue is now solved, a water contaminant I can't test for - likely in the salt batch. Based on the fish being unaffected I'd guess a heavy metal - since fish are much more tolerant of them than corals.

    tank crashing. not sure why.

after 2 days the test frags are doing well and showing lots of PE. also, my mystic sunset is doing better - for the first time in forever, i see PE.

    Clownfish Jumped :(

I'm sorry man. That sucks. Imo a screen doesn't really take away from the top less look. Especially if the tank has a rim. Use 1/4" mesh, it's ideal ime. The thing about glass tops is they block evaporation so if you use a fan or anything like that over the summer to help with the...

    Arthropods and BTA

it may have had an exoskeleton too thick for the sting to pierce, or it didnt get stung with enough venom to kill it so it escaped. im sure if you caught that same pod, killed it, and placed it to a tentacle with the flow off, the BTA would grab ahold and eat it. though nutritionally i...

    tank crashing. not sure why.

Yeah I should... But I keep praying they bounce back. Staring at them for PE all the time. I'm planning on grabbing a small acro frag to test if the issue has been resolved though, since even if it has I suspect the damage done was too much for these sps to recover from, or at least show...

    tank crashing. not sure why.

my acan looks a bit happier. but the acros are goners. does anybody see anything indicative of infection or parasitism? im wondering if this was maybe a case of white pox? my remaining montis are holding on for dear life, but i haven seen PE in a month from them.

    Great Article

yup. everytime i get something from someone on here, its a 2x the size for 1/2 the price of online vendors. and i think its totally ok to want some money - recoup the cost of your initial purchase of the frag, and for more supplements and what not. but i never felt like someone on here was...

    my stupid wrasse

thought id share. i have a very brave and boisterous carpenters wrasse. he isnt the least bit scared of me, and knows that im the guy that feeds the tank. so he is always very excited when im in front of the tank and starts looking for food. swims around my hands (even lets me touch him - i...

    Marineland aquariums

My current tank is marineland. The glass box is just fine. Mine was drilled and had and overflow ininstalled by the previous owner, I believe so I can't comment on how their reef ready tanks are.

    tank crashing. not sure why.

Just did a second 50% water change, so the water in the tank is now 75% new. That should reset anything that had reached a toxic concentration. I pulled all but one magnetic frag puck out just in case. And read online that vortech pumps magnets will occasionally fail and rust, killing the...

    tank crashing. not sure why.

So new corals are now showing the same symptoms. So its not the alk, and not the light. I cracked open a new bucket of h2ocean about a month ago... could it be a bad batch of salt? The Ca and alk measures are correct. Maybe some impurity?

    tank crashing. not sure why.

the MH burnt out today. a nearly dead MH couldnt have bugged the corals other than just maybe providing less than optimal par, could it? it wouldnt somehow peak its UV emissions or something? it wasnt old - replaced it in the spring. maybe 6 months old, tops.
