Any Idea what this can be?

Nah I'm good. Xenia is doing fine. The sps were hit hardest. Only a handful may make it - the valida, red planet, and mystic sunset. But softies are unaffected, and my LPS mostly seem ok. Only my war and peace favites is complaining. But it's mostly intact.

Any Idea what this can be?

its depressing. but what can you do. i rationalize it as not actually killing the coral - they are asexual propagates. like rooted cutting from a tree - the main tree is still doing well in the tank of ORA, or Tyree, or JF, or whoever, and a ton of other clones are also doing good. but my...

    Wtb sps corals

Most my sps collection took a sizable hit from an alk swing. Need to fill the tank back up. Corals I'm interested in include: Bird of paradise pink birdsnest Oregon tort or cali tort Acro milli - especially if it's a blue milli meteor shower cyphastrea appleberry montipora purple...

Any Idea what this can be?

Ouch... I like mine at 10 dkh too. Mine fell to 8 or so and did a ton of damage. However how fast it falls is also important. Did it drop slowly cuz you didn't dose, or did you OD on calcium? My advice is return your parameters to normal slowly (no more than 1dkh change per day), then keep...

Any Idea what this can be?

That's low. But some people just keep low alk. What is it normally?

    The Invisible Hand

I can think of a 2 main pathways of correcting factors that may have helped. You have a low pH, some CO3-- was protonated full to H2CO3, then out gassed as CO2. You have a high pH, and high Ca++, along with low Mg++ and the CO3-- precipitated out as CaCO3. Though that is lucky. Hope your...

Any Idea what this can be?

if it is an alk swing, its not the worst one - and you wont lose all your sps like i just did. i soon saw bits of flesh falling off from all over, along with burnt tips, and a receding base. you just have a receding base. i had an acro frag do that when it had too little light, and i saw some...

    tank crashing. not sure why.

looks like most of my SPS are gonners. my birdsnests and stylo are undergoing STN and RTN (depending on the branch), and most of my acros have died, along with my cyphastrea, and bunch of others. my red planet, mystic sunset, nauti spiral, and valida look like they might pull through. the...

    tank crashing. not sure why.

That's what I think too. But there is no other way for that much Ca to get in while I'm away. But my log is hourly, so maybe a bump from 8.20 to 8.31 was when kalk was dumped in, right after reading at 8.2 and then the pH dropped down to 8.3 from whatever it was by the next hourly log...

    tank crashing. not sure why.

Well I considered the bulb was unlikely. Good to know people agree. No change to any corals today. Sorry to hear about your clams. Do you know why they died?

    tank crashing. not sure why.

wow that is terrible. but not my issue. i use marineland, and have a giant box that ive been using for the past year.

    tank crashing. not sure why.

That was my initial conclusion. I posted on nano reef asking if it was a kalk overdose. But no spike in pH was recorded. And I was away so it would have to have been from the kalk, not my manual 2part. What would be the prognosis do you think? I'm hoping I don't lose all my pretty sps...

    tank crashing. not sure why.

well i pulled out the carbon, and replaced the bulb with the old one just in case. so if its either of those, there shouldnt be new damage, just progression of the symptoms of what already happened. fish seem totally fine. and my acan lord is doing good. torch is pissed but not too bad...

    tank crashing. not sure why.

Left for 3 days. Now my tank is crashing and im not sure why. I suspected an automatic topoff (with kalk) overdose. But my ACJR shows no ph spike in the log. When I first tested, these were my values: Ca - >500ppm KH - 8.2dkh Mg - 1250ppm NO3 - 0ppm PO4 - 0.02ppm Did 2 water...

    Emerald crabs and wrasses

When I tried emerald crabs they ate the polyps off my montis, and coralline off the rock. Then they molten and while their shell was soft my 6 line wrasse ate them.

In Need of Some Advice. House is Scheduled to be Raised. What Should I DO with Tank

reactors you could probably live without. just stick whatever media it is in a media bag - carbon, GFO, whatever. except maybe if you use biopellets - i know nothing about them so somebody else is best to let you know if those are ok in just a bag. but if not you could just switch to vodka or...

    Phosphate Issue

How long has it been high? You don't want to drop it too quick if it's been a while, or you'll shock the system. Also, frozen food doesn't have more P than other food of the same ingredients. Meaning frozen brine shrimp is the same in P content (after subtracing water content) as flake food...

    What's everyone dosing??

Alk and vodka every am. Ca, acropower, and phytofeast every pm. Mg with every water change and as needed. I also add 1/10 drop lugols with each waterchange. It might be in my head, but it has made my greens greener.
