no i understand that.
what i meant was that the anemone has evolved to eat various invertebrates such as crustaceans. so when a clownfish rubs a crustacean against it, it stands to reason that the sting will harm that crustacean - unlike when you touch most anemones where its sticky, but...
doesnt seem like a stretch - anemones eat pods. if a bloodsucking pod is on a clown, and the clown rubs it against cnidocysts, why would the anemone not kill and eat it?
yes i am. :)
i understand that that kind of upheaval is uncommon in nature, but not unheard of - storms might similarly dislocate them into a new environment.
a professor im doing research with had a paper criticized where he showed that sexual size dimorphism in a lizard was due to...
the interesting thing is that there seems to be more to it than just size. something else can also determine final status.
i got a pair of picassos, and they were similar in size, with one being slightly larger, but both being male-sized and not female yet. but the larger one hasnt grown, and...
Rutgers, studying animal science.
As long as you don't have an evil prof orgo isn't supposed to be too bad. Though here at RU there is one guy called boikes who makes it impossible. So glad I'm done with that.
Looks like an allergic reaction, but I'm not a physician so I'm not gonna tell you you're all in the clear. If it were me I'd just observe and let it go away on its own unless it got worse.
M. marinum rarely infects people. Usually the immunocompromised, and most often its fisherman, not...
how would you make a mix? do the zoas graft like montis? or just mix in terms of appearance.
im assuming its not the result of sexual reproduction between the two morphs - if somebody did raise any zoa (or any coral for that matter) no matter how it looks from a zygote, that is beyond impressive.
there are a handful of corals id be interested in, if you end up selling individually. the bop, superman, strawberry shortcake, and pink zippers mainly, maybe a few others if i saw em in person.
either way, good luck with the sale.
looking for one to a few acans. only really need a single polyp to start from.
anything thats nice. classic red, green and purple, oranges are cool too.
let me know if you can cut and sell me a frag :)
i can see that happening. calcium phosphate likely has a very low solubility. the OH- helps deprotonated the phosphate, and then the calcium and phosphate bind and crystalize. but i have no idea how big of an effect this has. particularly because if those are the only things at play, then...
The heavy feeding would decrease my water quality. I want my sps to stay colorful.
Also they could suffer when I'm on vacation - I need the tank to be able to survive 2 weeks without my intervention.
I do agree that sun corals are gorgeous though.
if you used a razor, im sure you could get the hard water stains off just like coralline. its just carbonate deposits - same as the kind the algae lays down.
since its plating, and not just encrusting, i like quick growth - the plates are thin and easy to snap to make frags. and the frags can help pay for the salt/suppliments/etc.
and as long as it keeps the pale blue and green coloration, i dont mind the aggression. if it ends up browning, i wont...
i know chalices in general are low light, but i got all these frags fresh cut from a guys tank as i pointed and said "X dollars of that". the hollywood stunner was about midway in the tank, under a 150W metal halide (looked like 14000k) - so i put it in the same position, and it seems to be...
