I was told that the maxijet work fine with the wavemaker. You can also use the koralia only if its the magnum type.

do not use the korila 4 for they will make an annoying sound when first starting up. I had the model three and i had to remove the wavemaker. But to my suprise i purchased the model 5 and they do not make any noise. Must be because of there big size.

Assuming all your water parameters where fine was there any fish that might have been attacking the poor little guy. I've had this problem where one fish wont let the other fish eat. He would get so caught up in worrying about him not eating that by the time it was done he also didn't eat. :'(
