I also had the same problem when i upgraded to MH lights. Algae would cover the tank every couple of hours. Now it doesnt seems like its under control all is left is the aftermath. Also have to get some workers in there to clean up guess a trip to the pet store. ;D

i ran out of time and didnt get to try that out completly. That might not be enough time either due to the water flow coming in. Might have to switch the pump to a bigger one. But due the maxijet pump use 1/4 tubing.

You may want to rethink that whole pump thing the jbj has a set timer which cuts off the pump within 3-14 minutes so if within that time your water levels werent reached it puts it in standby until you reset it. check out my thread on equipment.

Forgot to mention when it goes into this stand by mode is stays there and doesnt reset therefor when ever the water gets low its not going to kick the pump on.

Is anyone here using this type of top off. Just set mine up and i am having problems with it. OK i set up both sensors in my sump one to activate the pump when low and the other to deactivate when high. The problem is that my pump is not producing enough water to be able to cover the difference...

but wouldnt you have noticed the light on in the heater. That is one you might want to look into i was thinking maybe the pump running hot. Anyhow an issue you need to address for that temp being so high in the winter.

I dont have a corner over flow its toward the back left side. But when i do turn off the return pump the water in the tank lowers and the sump fills up to a certain point. I really think that there is no more water flowing but thats a big chance to take.

I just set up my auto top off and it works like a charm. I underestimated the power of the pump that i bought with it. It is an AquaLifter Pump. I ran 1/4 tubing from holding tank to near my sump about 10ft then from the pump another 5ft into the sump and it works great.

I was told to replace my bio-balls with live rock in the sump to bring down my nitrate. Does anyone else have live rock in there sump or is this a big no no?
