no pump or heaters. If I keep the car at 72 degrees or so the water temp won't drop more than a degree or so during the drive, especially if I wrap the buckets in blankets. I don't think the balloons would pop. When you only fill them with a little air they can be pretty resilient.
I know, I am stuck. Balloons around them in buckets is the best idea I had. The other option is to chisel them off of the rocks. Should I move them in Styrofoam coolers out of water?
I was worried about bubble wrap being dirty or the plastic contaminating the water. I figured that balloons would be safe. I was thinking of not filling the balloons up and using a lot in the bucket.
What is the best way to move a lot of decent sized sps colonies? I was thinking of using a lot of buckets but I want to preserve the integrity of the corals as best as possible. What does everyone else do?
no brass ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Brass=Copper
You will kill everything in the tank, seriously. If you can't find pvc ball valves, I have them available in glue and threaded in stock at work.
The par 38 refers to the form of the bulb. For example we sell par 36 bulbs that come in different wattages and angles. I would not recommend a 6700k bulb. Tropical sunlight is closest to 14,000k. A 6700 bulb is very yellow, which is great for macro algae growth, but not ideal for coral. The...
Cost, quality of the light, no lens option, but Life expectancy is the really big one. Bipin leds don't have the life span like the surface mount design. Something like 50% par value after 10,000 hours. Also the wattage is close to .1 watt versus 1-3 watts.
Something like these...
The one you posted in the picture will not give an ideal result. It uses the cheap bipin bulbs. Look for lights that use the cree leds like in the link ed posted. There is actually someone making them for reef tanks that fit in normal open household fixtures.
I know, we are trying to figure out what day is best. I am hoping it will be a nice sunny warm day within the next few weeks on a weekend. It won't be on the 30th.
I know and I could sell my lighting fixture as well. I just have to decide if I want to do all that drilling and tapping on a heat sink by hand without a drill press. I don't want to glue the leds so that is my biggest hesitation.
So do I spend the $600 on a making one.... I need about $200 worth of bulbs now, so this deal is making me think. http://www.rapidled.com/servlet/the-32/48-Premium-LED-DIY/Detail
The tank is in the upper saddle river area. Not sure what weekend yet. It has to go up a flight of stairs and into a uhaul. We will only need help loading it into the uhaul.
